South Australia, it’s official, we have some of the best cheese in the world. And now we’re taking it to the world

Woodside Cheese Wrights first shipment to the United States of America has just landed in peak condition and is now being distributed across the country. The distribution to major cities includes New York, California, Boston, and Connecticut.

Kris Lloyd, CEO, Woodside Cheese Wrights said, ‘It’s taken quite some time and reams of paperwork but we are finally able to get the shipment across the line and we are thrilled!’

Stores stocking our fave cheese include Plum Plums Cheese in Pound Ridge, New York, which sold out of fan favourite ‘Monet’ as soon as it hit the shelves.

Owner Gayle Martin sent a message to the US Distributor saying, ‘Monet was a big hit. Do you have another case? I can pick it up today – I can’t wait until my next delivery!’

Other US Stockists include Bishops Orchard Farm Market, Connecticut, and Hudson Valley Connect, New York.

‘It is incredible to see stores in the US on Instagram, Twitter and Facebook posting about our cheeses. There was particular interest in our native range which we have been producing for over 10 years,’ continued Kris.

‘It makes me realise, once again, that we should not take for granted what we have in our own backyard, this is something they don’t have so we can truly be competitive and give the distributor we are dealing with a point of difference to add to their portfolio.’

With follow up orders already in the system, Woodside Cheese Wrights is busy preparing to send shipment number two.

President and fellow World Cheese Judge, Stephanie Ciano, who heads up the US Distribution Agency said, ‘We are excited to have these lovely cheeses produced by Kris now available in the USA as they are a great representation of Australian terroir, tradition, and innovation. They are both beautiful and delicious!’

Part of the range being sent to the US is Kris’ famous ‘Monet’ flower cheese, complete with new packaging which has been successful in extending the shelf life of the product from two weeks to six weeks. Beautifully presented, it makes the perfect gift just in time for Mother’s Day.

Other Woodside Cheese Wrights products exported include the Lemon Myrtle Chevre, Saltbush Chevre and Kris Lloyd Artisan Buffalo Persian Style Feta.

Lloyd said, ‘We are also working on trying to get the Anthill – a Goat Cheese covered in Australian Native Green Ants – to the US as well as there is so much interest in that cheese.’ This interest only grew after its great score at the 2017 World Cheese Awards, where it came eleventh in a lineup of over 3000 cheeses.
