The Secret Island Party That’s Happening Today

The Secret Island Party, headlined by Adelaide’s most significant techno identity, the one and only HMC, is happening this afternoon.

This Sunday (today) marks the culmination of 2KW’s management of the Pontoon on Elder Park before it gets taken over by the Adelaide Festival. To send things off with a bang and to mark the start of February, in conjunction with Velvet (a night curated by DJ Mel Lake at Sugar) they’re throwing the The Secret Island Party, headlined by Adelaide’s most significant techno identity, the one and only HMC.

Carmelo Bianchetti, AKA DJ HMC, began his ascension into South Australian music folklore in the 90’s as one of Australia’s foremost techno and house identities, as dance music culture was in its infancy. Since then, he’s been prolific, not only as HMC, but more recently under the Late Night Tuff Guy moniker, and his own label, Reflector, which came about through his relationship with Juice Records.

DJ HMC will be playing a very special 2-hour set at The Secret Island Party this Sunday, supported by the former owner and curator of now defunct underground club, Cuckoo, Phildo and rising Adelaide techno DJ Mel Lake who curates Velvet and Temple and Sugar.

Mel Lake told Glam she was super enthusiastic about The Secret Island, describing it as “a magical fairytale for all to be a part of.” Lake says the event is a collaborative event with disc jockeys, sound engineers, visual artists, performers, decor artists, chefs, putting togther their respective talents to create a “multi-sensory, all immersive experience.”

We can’t think of any other event to herald the upcoming Festive Season and Mad March and the great line up of events at Adelaide Festival.

The Secret Island Party is tomorrow at Sunday 4th Feb from 3pm till midnight on The Pontoon on the River Torrens in Elder Park.
