BY THE C just became even more of a Summer 2019 ‘Must-See’ with the thrilling addition of Australia’s global stars The Church to a superstar line-up featuring ICEHOUSE, Sunnyboys, Do Re Mi and Mental As Anything

These five GIANTS of Australian Music are the perfect summer treat for music fans and it is the first time they have played together on the same stage.   These shows are special ‘one-off’ treat for music lovers at some of Australia’s best outdoor locations and are not to be missed – you will not see this same line-up again!

The Church, originally from Canberra, made their breakthrough via second single The Unguarded Moment and followed that up with a long list of classics including Almost With You, Already Yesterday, Under The Milky Way; psychedelic and glam influenced classics updated for a younger generation. In frontman Steve Kilbey, the band had someone who once boasted he had written the “best song in the world”, that the band continues to tour the world playing those old classics plus new material may well have proved him right!

ICEHOUSE was formed by Iva Davies and is one of those bands who have managed to transcend age groups with a career spanning 40 years.  Generations of music lovers have been brought up with hits such as Crazy, Electric Blue, We Can Get Together, Great Southern Land, Hey Little Girl and Man Of Colours to name a few. ICEHOUSE has sold over three million albums locally, more than nine million internationally have achieved 28 platinum album sales in Australasia.  The band has had eight Top 10 albums and more than 30 Top 40 singles. ICEHOUSE and Iva Davies have won many awards including the Countdown Award for the Most Popular Male Performer and ARIA Awards for the Best Album and Highest Selling Album for Man of Colours.  The band was inducted in the ARIA Hall of Fame in 2006.  In June 2013 Iva was made a Member of the Order of Australia (AM) for ‘significant service to the music and entertainment industry’ as a songwriter and performer, and to the community.  One of Australia’s greatest live acts, ICEHOUSE is set to present a show not to be missed.

Sunnyboys formed in Sydney although the bulk of the band had spent their formative years in northern NSW honing their craft. Sunnyboys blasted onto the Sydney scene in mid-1980 via a highly infectious combination of Beatles melodic smarts set to Radio Birdman-like intensity . Crowds quickly swelled and soon Sunnyboysbecome the first Sydney band signed to Melbourne’s fabled Mushroom Records.  Their eponymous debut album is hailed as one of the great Australian albums of all time and tracks like Happy Man, Alone With You, You Need A Friend and Show Me Some Discipline are songs that sound as fresh today as when they were written.

Do Re Mi, fronted by the outspoken Deborah Conway, courted controversy via lyrical repletes that drew on the female perspective when most girls in music were considered more a commodity than a driving force. At their peak Do Re Mi were one of the hardest working bands at their peak, playing over 250 shows in one calendar year and marking them as one of the scenes most essential live acts.  In 2019, the message and intent of Do Re Mi via tracks Standing on Wires, Man Overboard, Idiot Grin, Adultery and more has Do Re Mi sounding as vital as ever.

Still as brilliant ever, award winning Mental as Anything are going strong with sell out performances.  Their entertaining and timeless music will have you enjoying songs such as the classics The Nips are Getting Bigger, Too Many Times, Mr Natural & Live it Up, to name a few.  As members of the coveted ARIA Hall of Fame, they started out as a group of art students who passed themselves off as a band in order to con the local publican into giving them a gig, in exchange for free beer.  The deception worked better than intended, and the group came to be known as Mental as Anything.  More than three decades later, their music is still highly listenable and recognisable with their identifiable brand of garage pop.  A self‐explanatory single to reflect their success, The Nips Are Getting Bigger, rose through the charts both nationally and internationally as did their fundamental understanding of the old adage that ‘for every action there is a reaction’.  The talented members of the band culminate in a sound unequalled or paralleled by any other band.

BY THE C brings this five giants of the post-punk generation, all featuring their own unique, enhanced if not directly influenced by a cultural movement that continues to inspire to this day not only via music, but in film, fashion and even politics.  And for a few summer days in 2019 BY THE C lets you appreciate the beauty of it all.
