Sweet Tunes Set To Amaze At Adelaide’s Guitar Festival

Do you love the sweet, sweet sounds of acoustic, full-bodied, twangy or harp-like guitar? This year’s Adelaide Guitar Festival’s fabulous precursor is going to massive, with the number of artists increasing by 40 percent compared to last year.

There will be a whopping 220 gigs to play across South Australia and fans will be spoiled for choice with over 780 artists set to play at over 100 venues! Adelaide Guitar Festival’s Guitars in Bars, presented by Adelaide Festival Centre will begin July 13 and continue until the 29th.

Adelaide Guitar Festival Artistic Director Slava Grigoryan said Guitars in Bars has only been around for three years, but it’s already proving a success, “This year offers the most exciting program yet, with more artists, more venues and more live music,” he said.

“It’s a wonderful opportunity for performers to showcase their talent and we’re thrilled so many musicians and venues want to get involved.” Guitars in Bars connects musicians with venues, resulting in an explosion of live music across South Australia.

This year there is increased interest outside the city and suburbs, with 25 regional events lined up at venues including Port Pirie, Port Lincoln, Barossa and Victor Harbor. “We are excited that more of South Australia will be able to experience Guitars in Bars this year,” Mr Grigoryan said. “Last year we had five regional events, this year we have 25. We know South Australians have a keen appetite for live music and we want to take it to as many places as possible.”

It’s a busy and exciting time for music enthusiasts – Guitars in Bars coincides with Music SA’s Umbrella: Winter City Sounds. So there will be plenty to choose from! Adelaide Festival Centre’s CEO & Artistic Director Douglas Gautier says Guitars in Bars helps to build excitement for Adelaide Guitar Festival, which runs from August 9th till the 12th. “Guitars in Bars is growing in popularity which reaffirms South Australia’s love for live music and Adelaide’s status as a UNESCO City of Music,” he said. “It opens doors for musicians and helps established artists build their audiences.

“This year, three acts will be chosen to appear in Adelaide Guitar Festival which is an extraordinary opportunity and a reflection of Adelaide Festival Centre’s commitment to supporting local artists.” Adelaide Guitar Festival brings some of the world’s best guitar players to Adelaide, including Tommy Emmanuel and Friends, Grammy award-winning legend Albert Lee, and Martha Masters & Vladimir Gorbach.
