If you’re anything like me and grew up with Chronicles of Narnia, the sight of a charming old wardrobe always brings the fleeting impulse to open the door in case a magical world is waiting if you step inside.

Melbourne bar Trinket lets you live out that fantasy.

If you’re heading to Melbourne and wining and dining is on itinerary (and let’s be honest, it should be), Flinders Lane is already a one-stop shop of deliciousness.

And at number 87 is Trinket, an eclectic cocktail lounge oozing with old world charm.

Settle into a plush lounge amongst the sparkle and glamour for full table service. Cocktails are the specialty, from expertly-mixed classics to boozy creations with a Trinket twist, and a full menu of elegant sparkling-based concoctions.

Bites are designed to share, from comforting classics to more luxe bar bites and a delicious range of flat breads.

And then there’s that wardrobe. Follow your instincts and step through the narrow door, push through the hanging gowns and you’ll find a narrow staircase. Follow is downstairs and you’ll find a candlelit cellar bar below complete with velvet lounges and the sounds of jazz.

For something even more delightful, every Saturday and Sunday arvo at Trinket means Afternoon Delights. Their afternoon tea with a twist is an indulgent jaunt of savoury bites and pink delights, matched with specialty sips.

There are two sittings – noon-2pm, or 2.30-4.30pm. It’s $45 per person including a cocktail and glass of sparkling rosé, or up the ante with bottomless sparkling for $80 per person.
