The wonderful Lucky Dumpling Market plays host this year to a bevvy of fine musical artists, all appearing for free. Last night saw Filipino icon Enrique de Dios entertaining the crowd.

De Dios has played with a wealth of Filipino bands and artists, and covers a broad range of genres. He is a singer-songwriter who produces work with touches of folk, blues, jazz and even reggae. He also interprets traditional Filipino works, singing in both English and Tagalog.

Enormously personable and warm, De Dios sings and plays guitar, using live-looping to add depth to his work. It is easy to see how he has come to garner such a strong reputation in his home country, and I feel this will be the first of many trips to Australia.

There is a wealth of other artists performing free in the Dumpling Market.

Alena Murang from Malaysian Borneo, who plays the traditional sape: one of the few females to do so. Murang sings traditional Kelabit songs.

Mocca are an Indie-Pop band from Indonesia, and are sure to be as popular as Risky Sommerbee and the Honeythief were two years ago.

Electric Fields, blend ancient Anangu culture with modern electronic soul.

With a tantalising array of food and beverage choices, a beautiful riverside setting and a nightly program of entertainment, the Lucky Dumpling Market will provide you with one of the best nights out you’ve had in a long time. You can also catch a free show before, or after, your ticketed show.

Enrique de Dios next plays Sunday September 25th at 5 pm.

Duration: 60 minutes.

Lucky Dumpling Market is open throughout the Festival.
Entrance free.
