One of our favourite things in life is a leisurely weekend brunch date for an overdue friend catch-up or a post-yoga refuel. If you love brunch (or even just breakfast and lunch) dates as much as we do, then get excited, as we may have just found your new favourite spot! Phoenix on Unley opened its doors earlier this month and already they’re establishing themselves as the place to go for delicious, high-quality food.
Situated on Unley Road, one of Adelaide’s premier dining and shopping strips, Phoenix on Unley is owned by lovers of all things local. Chef, Kieren O’Rourke, and his wife moved to Adelaide 3 years ago and developed an appreciation for the fine produce that our State has to offer. Kieren brings 20 years of experience to the plate, having formerly worked for celebrity chef, Karen Martini, in Melbourne.
Influenced by old school techniques and inspired by the Melbourne café scene, Phoenix on Unley features a fresh and contemporary menu that delivers so much more than just a ‘smashed avo’ (sorry, smashed avo, we still love you!). A customer favourite is the Pan Fried Rueben, a cheesy brisket sandwich that’s been labeled as ‘only the best god damn rueben going around’. Other top choices include the popular poached eggs on smoked ham hock, the vegan almond milk, matcha and chia pudding and the mouthwatering southern fried chicken po boy. Sounds amazing right?
And did we mention they even make their own food? They hand select Berkshire pork from Howie Hill Farm on McLaren Flat to make their own bacon, corn a local Angus brisket (the star of the reuben) and make their own cheese curd from Fleurieu milk. Their support of local food and farmers is a massive tick in our books.

Phoenix on Unley can be found on 227 Unley Road, Malvern. They cater for vegetarian, vegan and gluten-free and are open daily from 7am to 4pm, and till 7pm on Fridays.
