Crowne Plaza Adelaide opens it’s doors

In a significant milestone for South Australia’s tourism industry, one of the only internationally branded hotels to open in Adelaide in the past 20 years welcomes its first guests today.

The Crowne Plaza Adelaide – a $100 million, 15-storey upscale hotel, developed by Hines Property – is the 16th Crowne Plaza in Australia and the first time the internationally recognised brand has had a presence in Adelaide.

Crowne Plaza Adelaide, located at Hindmarsh Square, will become a landmark on the city’s skyline and its opening will meet the demand for more hotel rooms in the CBD. Construction and design of the hotel has focused on environmentally sustainable design principles, with a range of initiatives incorporated into its development, such as rain water harvesting, energy efficient fixates and air-conditioning systems and water efficient fittings.

Crowne Plaza Adelaide offers 308 rooms and suites, with many featuring balconies and overlooking leafy Hindmarsh Square, the Adelaide Hills and the city. All rooms include LCD televisions, WiFi, walk-in showers and contemporary furnishings.

Crowne Plaza General Manager Brendon Meppem said today’s opening was the culmination of three years of hard work by hotel developer and owner, Hines Property and the IHG Group, which owns the Crowne Plaza brand.

“We are very excited to welcome our first guests and have been buoyed by the forward bookings and interest in the hotel ” he said.
“To get to this point we’ve purchased more than 950 chairs, 320 LCD televisions, 11,000 towels, 4500 sheets, 1500 pillows, more than 200 uniforms, 11,000 pieces of china, more than 12,000 glasses, more than 600 pots and pans, 2000 kitchen items and more than 600 beds.”
