Gawler Growers’ Market Returning Early Next Year

“We aim to give local growers and food producers an opportunity to sell direct to the customer and improve farm gate returns,” said Mr Andrew Frangos, spokesperson for the market.

We’ve got some fantastic news for our local Aussie farmers, because early next year Gawler will be hosting the Aussie Farmers Market once more!

The market is launching on Saturday the 12th of January next year at the Gawler Visitor Centre Carpark and it’ll be there every following Saturday until midday.

The Frangos family from Virginia have taken over the management of the market with plans to provide a wider range of fresh fruit and vegetables, an awesome thing for growers and locals looking for fresh produce alike.

“We aim to give local growers and food producers an opportunity to sell direct to the customer and improve farm gate returns,” said Mr Andrew Frangos, spokesperson for the market.

The proposal has the support of local Member of Parliament, Mr Tony Piccolo, who successfully put their case for the market at a November Council meeting. Mr Piccolo told the council: “All stall holders will be owner-operated and reflect mum and dad small businesses.”

It’s this focus on small businesses and the opportunity for stall holders to be present every week to talk about their produce that organisers hope will make the market more successful.

“Farmers markets are not only important to give growers a better
return and enable customers to buy direct, they also play an important social role by helping build a sense of community,” says Mr Piccolo.

The new market commences at 8 am on Saturday 12th January 2019 in the
Gawler Visitor Centre Carpark. Keep up to date on Facebook.
