The Cudlee Creek Fire has had a devastating effect on the Adelaide Hills, including regions that will be involved in the upcoming Santos Tour Down Under.
“Our communities have been hit hard by this devastating emergency, and we are already working on the long process of recovery,” says Adelaide Hills Council Mayor, Jan-Claire Wisdom.
After the loss of 25,000 hectares in the Adelaide Hills in the Cudlee Creek fire, Wisdom believes that events like the Tour Down Under will unite citizens of Woodside after such a difficult time.
“A huge event like the Tour Down Under is something that the community can look forward to,” Wisdom says. “It will provide them with an opportunity to come together and celebrate after a time of great fear and distress.”
CCC Team, Poland’s first UCI WorldTour cycling team, will be visiting Woodside on Tuesday January 7 at 10:30am in acknowledgement of the recent fires to boost morale, and thank the community for supporting the Novatech Stage 2 Start beginning on Wednesday 22 January.
“The volunteers of Love Woodside, and the Woodside Commerce Association are working hard to finish decorations for the CCC Team Tour Down Under Stage Start on 22 January,” says Mayor Wisdom. “The Tour Down Under has become a place of respite for the working bees in the local community. They are using this creative outlet as part of their recovery.”
Tomorrow, the Woodside township will be welcoming the CCC team with colours, flowers and butterflies as they prepare for the Tour Down Under.
“By decorating the town like this, the volunteers want to express their feelings of resilience and create a movement towards rejuvenation,” Wisdom states.
