Former Formula 1 driver and multiple Le Mans winner David Brabham will steer the stunning Brabham BT62 through the streets of Adelaide at the Superloop Adelaide 500, joining an exceptional on track program at the 2019 event.

Designed and manufactured in South Australia, the BT62 heralds the next chapter of the iconic Brabham marque whilst also honouring the legacy of the marque’s greatest and most memorable cars.

David Brabham, son of three-time Formula 1 World Champion Sir Jack Brabham, is thrilled to bring the BT62 to the streets of Adelaide, its birth place and home of the Australian Grand Prix between 1985 and 1995 in which he competed in 1990 and 1994.

“To drive the BT62 around the Superloop Adelaide 500 street circuit will be a fitting tribute to my father as we celebrate the 60th anniversary of his first Formula 1 World Championship in 1959, and what Brabham Automotive stands for,” he said.

“Alongside our family ties to Australia, the region of South Australia holds a rich automotive heritage as well as hosting one of the most popular motorsport events in Australia.”

The Brabham BT62 is limited to just 70 cars, representing Brabham Automotive’s seventy-year racing heritage, and made its most notable appearance at its worldwide dynamic debut at the Goodwood Festival of Speed in July 2018.

Superloop Adelaide 500 General Manager, Alistair MacDonald, hopes the on-track demonstration will bring both a touch of history and the thrill of adrenalin to fans attending the event this year.

“This is a fantastic opportunity for motorsport fans and those alike to appreciate the power of these race cars as they take to the Superloop Adelaide 500 street circuit,” he said.

“We want to recognise the legacy of the Brabham family and there is nothing more fitting than to host the BT62, a great South Australian manufacturing story, at the premier motorsport event in its home town.”

Built for long-lasting track performance, the Brabham BT62 is powered by a Brabham 5.4-litre naturally aspirated V8 engine, which produces 710PS and features an aggressive aerodynamic package that delivers over 1200kg of downforce.

In between its daily on-track appearances, the Brabham BT62 will be displayed in the General Admission Precinct alongside several other historic Brabham race cars, where visitors have the opportunity to meet and talk with David Brabham.

The Superloop Adelaide 500 will take place 28 February – 3 March, 2019.
