Book Review: Ambulance Ambulance! by Sally Sutton & Brian Lovelock

A fun book for ages 2+, teaching them about the purpose of an ambulance and the job of paramedic/ambulance crews.

Sally Sutton and Brian Lovelock have continued their successful series of “vehicle” books with this one about an ambulance. Other books from this successful team are Roadworks, Demolition and Construction.

Sally and Brian are able to write and illustrate stories which immediately appeal to those young children who have a love of anything on wheels and particularly in this book, the sound of sirens.

What toddler doesn’t enjoy making the sound of an ambulance? In this book there is ample opportunity for them to join in as the ambulance races down the road on its way to help someone who has fallen off their bike.

Sally’s simple rhyming and repetition, and Brian’s colourful illustrations make this picture book fun to read aloud to toddlers and the sound of the ambulance lends an air of urgency to the story. There is also lots to talk about by just looking at the illustrations.

The story is simple enough for children to memorise some of the text and also clearly lets the child know exactly what the purpose of an ambulance is and the job of paramedic/ambulance crews.

This book is perfect for young children from 2+ and could be used in pre-school and the early primary years when learning about the emergency services.

A fun read. Nee nar, nee nar, nee nar!
