Adelaide Oval Is Getting A Boutique Hotel (Built Right Into The Grandstand)

It will be the first hotel in Australia to be built in a stadium.

Adelaide Oval is getting its own hotel. And we’re not talking next door, or across the parklands – the boutique 128-room hotel is being built right in the stadium.

Integrated into the eastern facade of the existing structure, the Adelaide Oval Hotel will be Australia’s first to be built in a stadium.

Construction is expected to commence in May 2019, with the hotel planned to open by August 2020 in time for the ICC World T20.

Unfortunately you won’t be able to book a room with spectacular views for the big games – the hotel rooms will face out of the stadium, with views of St Peter’s Cathedral, Adelaide Parklands and the city skyline.

The hotel will feature two wings that will integrate into the existing design on either side of the East Gate, and they will be linked by an elevated foyer and lounge pod which will also boast impressive views.

It  will utilise current kitchen and restaurant facilities, including Hill of Grace Restaurant. The hotel will be built and managed by the Adelaide Oval Stadium Management Authority, and not operated by an external provider.

And planning is underway to minimise disruption to the stadium during construction – the hotel will be built as a ‘pod’ separated from the back of the eastern stand to keep access points clear.

The project is being  funded by a $42 million loan backed by the South Australian Government, and once it’s open, the hotel will create 120 jobs.
