It’s official Adelaide, winter has well and truly hit us. You know what winter means—comfort foods! If you, like many of us, have been holding out for that classic cheese toastie with hot, oozy cheese and the perfect crunchy toast, this Thursday is your lucky day. Why do you ask? ‘Cause it’s National Toastie Day!

June 28 celebrates the humble toastie, so we’ve put together a guide to some of the best toasties in Adelaide—so you can drop that basic coon cheese jaffle and indulge in something a little cheesier!

And if you just can’t wait till Thursday, the guys over at Proof are having their Mismatch Toastie Takeover tomorrow, where you can enjoy some pretty delicious toasties matched with some epic beers. The perfect winter warmer!

Abbots And Kinney 78 Pirie St

Abbots and Kinney not only do great coffee, but pair your brew with one of their gourmet toasties and it’ll be a match made in heaven! These toasties are full of good stuff, like cheddar, sauteed mushrooms, and pesto! Lunch? Sorted.

Cheesy Street Food Truck

This food truck specialises in all things cheesy. Check out the cheese pull in this toastie! (Warning: you will get mad cravings right this second!)

For something a little different but will still make you drool, try out FRED Eatery’s gourmet toastie served with egg and herbs on the side. Positioned in the Adelaide Hills, this seems like the perfect place to pop in for lunch if you happen to be in the hills!

Nothing like a visit to Ebenezer Place to uncover some of the sweetest little hidden away cafes! Hey Juptier is a French-themed place that serves up some gorgeous French-styled cheese toasties. We say oui!

Home Ground (Sage), Riverbank

If you’re looking for lunch, a sneaky snack before the footy, or just looking for a bite to eat with an awesome view overlooking at Torrens, head to Sage at Home Ground for their $10 Barossa Valley ham & Swiss cheese toastie with tomato chutney.

Larry And Ladd Shop 36, Regent Arcade

Larry and Ladd is the perfect little hideaway to enjoy a toastie and stay warm and toastie (ha!) before you have to brave the cold down Rundle again!

This toastie is a must, because homemade toasties aren’t as instagramable as this! So much extravagance! Also for those of your with a sweet tooth, look out for their dark chocolate frangipane brioche french toast with housemade honeycomb and vanilla bean ice cream… it’s not exactly a toastie, but it sounds so good!

With fun names for their toasties, like Schoolyard Bully for their Cubano inspired toastie, we like this place already! Not only that, but check out this sweet toastie for those dessert lovers. It’s like an apple pie jaffle! Perfect for winter.

One of Adelaide’s newest seafood joints, SeaSalt at Henley Beach, is serving up a tuna toastie! Seems fitting don’t you think? The Tuna Melt, as it’s called, is served up with Ortiz Tuna, kewpie mayo, red onion, celery and vintage cheddar cheese. Tuna-ey, cheesy, melty, beachy deliciousness. Available all day inside, or takeaway. $13.

Stella – Henley Square, Henley Beach

If the below photo doesn’t make you hungry, we don’t know what will! The epic steak toasties from Stella won’t leave you hungry! Tender, thinly sliced rib eye steak with melty asiago cheese, rocket, tomato, capsicum coulis in toasted feloni bread, plus mayo and crispy chips $20.

 

The Cooks Pantry – Jetty St, Grange

If you fancy a toastie by the sea, this is the place to be. The cooks pantry have recently announced their new Pine mushroom and taleggio toastie served with truffle oil right in time for National Toastie Day. This toastie has our mouths watering and we can’t wait to try it.

The Mile End, 30 Henley Beach Road

The guys over at The Mile End are serving up a special Brisket Quesadilla especially for Toastie Day! It comes with fresh jalapenos, charred corn, smokey chipotle sauce, cheese melt, corn tortilla & avocado crema for $15.
