‘Walking the Mile’ for the Hutt Street Centre

Jogging FeetMore than 2,000 Adelaideans are expected to show their support for Hutt Street Centre’s work with homeless people this winter by “walking a mile” from North Terrace to South Terrace on Friday 6 August from 7.30am, coinciding with National Homeless Week.

Following the success of last year’s inaugural event, Hutt Street Centre is once again calling on local residents to put themselves in the shoes of Adelaide’s homeless by participating in its ‘Walk A Mile In My Boots’ fundraiser.

Designed to raise awareness of the difficulties faced by the homeless, the walk begins on the corner of North Terrace and East Terrace and follows a one-mile course down Hutt Street, ending at South Terrace, where participants will be cooked a typical Hutt Street Centre breakfast provided by event sponsor Badge.

“This is a chance for people to empathize with the struggles that less fortunate people face everyday,” said Zorica Zuill, event and project coordinator at the Hutt Street Centre.

“We’re hoping to get the community behind us. Everyone can show their support either by personally participating, or by donating through the Hutt Street Centre website,” she added.
