Tasting Australia partner McLaren Vale Beer Company (MVBeer) will run a custom designed bar in the Town Square for the duration of the Festival, Tourism Minister Leon Bignell has announced.

VALE/BAR will be located in front of the main stage, serving up a selection of craft beers and ciders as well as a range of unique experiences.

“Quality local beers are the next big thing in the food experience in South Australia and it’s great to see McLaren Vale Beer Company pouring their beers in the centre of the city and being involved in the nation’s premiere food festival,” Minister Bignell said.

MVBeer General Manager of Sales and Marketing Josh Stuart said it’s a fantastic opportunity for the McLaren Vale based company.

“We are looking forward to having a lot of fun and sharing a great celebration of our food, wine and craft beer origins,” Josh said.

“In addition to showcasing our range of craft beers, VALE/BAR will offer food themed art, rare McLaren Vale museum stock wine tastings, experimental brews, Thomas Foods brisket deals, children’s entertainment and we’ll be raising money for the Salvation Army’s meal service.”

Special activities at VALE/BAR:

  • Sunday April 27, 12-3pm (during Fork in the Road): Award winning Adelaide artist Tom Buchanan will paint a giant, food themed artwork live at the bar.
  • Thursday 1 May, 5-7pm: Taste and compare McLaren Vale Shiraz from 2004 and 1994, with wines from various producers. This is an informal, free event, courtesy of McLaren Vale Grape Wine and Tourism (please BYO festival wine glass).
  • Friday 2 May, 5pm: Head Brewer Jeff Wright joins Elbow Room Chef Nigel Rich on stage for a cooking with beer demonstration.
  • Saturday 3 May, 3-5pm: Enjoy a rare vertical tasting of McLaren Vale Shiraz from 1992 to 2006, with wines from various producers. This is an informal, free event, courtesy of McLaren Vale Grape Wine and Tourism (please BYO festival wine glass).
  • All week: Thomas Buchanan’s food themed artwork will be on display and visitors are invited to bid to win the piece in a silent auction. All proceeds will go to the Salvation Army’s ‘DUOs’ program which provides hot meals and social interaction for Adelaide’s disadvantaged and homeless twice a week.
  • All week: Enjoy $17 Beer & Brisket deals, with a gourmet brisket ciabatta from Thomas Foods and a pint of VALE/ALE, VALE/LGR, Crowder & Co or Dr Pilkington’s Miracle Cider.

  • All week: Children’s colouring in, craft activities and games available.

VALE/BAR is a collaborative project with The Wright St Hotel group, which will staff the bar and serve its Crowder & Co beer, event designers MASE and Rosemount Wines.
