Utonic To Deliver Free Stress Busters To Your Work This Week

Utonic are delivering 200 cases of “Calm” to businesses in the Adelaide CBD this Thursday 15 and Friday 16 June to celebrate Men’s Health Week.

Guys… this won’t come as a surprise. To anyone.

But we’re stressed as hell.

Collectively, as a society, we are now under the pump more than ever – especially when it comes to work-related stress. Seriously, did you know you know that workplace stress is listed as one of the top five stressors for people aged 26-45?! What the hay. And not only can stress lead to complete mental and physical burnout – you’re looking at increased risks of anxiety, depression and a whole bunch of health-related issues.

So ultimately if we don’t start implementing strategies to cope and mange this stress now, we’re doing ourselves some real harm in the long run. But ain’t nobody got time to even look for answers, right?

Pfft. No worries – as soon as we heard the good folk at Utonic are delivering 200 cases of “Calm” to businesses in the Adelaide CBD this Thursday 15 and Friday 16 June, we dug around and pulled together some other quick and easy stress-busting hacks that you can do at work.

Go Off The Grid (For A Bit)

Real talk: we’re addicted to our screens and have this insistent urge to check our devices as soon as we get an email notification, social media update, direct message or phone call. And while it may seem like a harmless glance or quick five-minute email, it all adds up and before you know it your attention has been totally diverted from a more pressing matter, ending you in some hot water. Remove the stress of distractions at work and simply turn your phone and emails on silent so you can solely focus on the task at hand.

On your break, try switching off completely too. This means forgetting about unanswered texts, the urge to send off one more email and ditching the habit of scrolling through social media. Utilise this time to practice mindfulness or go for a walk.

Stock Up On Stress-Busting Food and Drink

We recently came across a new Adelaide brand, Utonic, who know all too well the impact that workplace stress and anxiety can have on all areas of your life for example, maintaining a healthy lifestyle, getting enough sleep and relationships.

It’s one of the reasons why they created “Calm”, a science-backed drink that’s loaded full of ingredients like passionflower (known for reducing anxiety), sour cherry which is loaded full of nutrients that support physical health and natural melatonin which aids in sleep and chamomile (aids in relaxation and alleviate feelings of anxiety). And this week they want to hand deliver 200 cases around Adelaide CBD to remind you to take some time out and nourish your body. All you have to do is register your interest for FREE Utonic by emailing the guys at [email protected]

Adding more of these foods into your diet are also said to help reduce stress:

  • Oranges – Oranges contain high levels of vitamin C, which is not only great for antioxidant protection and boosting your immune system, but also is good for alleviating stress.
  • Salmon and tuna – The body doesn’t naturally produce omega 3 fatty acids, but they are essential for maintaining optimum body health and functions. Salmon and tuna also help prevent stress hormone surges, anxiety, and PMS.
  • Spinach – Packed full of magnesium, spinach helps combat stress related fatigue and boost energy levels.
  • Dark chocolate – Healthier than milk chocolate, dark chocolate lowers cortisol (stress hormones) and releases endorphins.

Keep Essential Oils On Hand

Essential oils have countless therapeutic benefits. Some essential oils in particular are known for their stress-relieving properties for example, lavender, rose, jasmine, and frankincense.

We suggest keeping an essential oil roll on like, This Works Stress Less Breathe In, which contains eucalyptus to invigorate the sense and combat fatigue, frankincense to relax, and lavender to suppress tension and insomnia. Press these oils into your pulse points, such as your neck, wrists, and even the backs of your knees and inside of your elbows. You can even do a pressure point massage: press underneath the inside of your eyebrows, temples, and front of your ears to alleviate tension.

Take A Short Walk

It’s easy to get caught in the trap of eating lunch at your desk. But be sure to get up and move around, even if it’s for a short walk around the office. Ideally, you want to try and get outside for some fresh air.

Meditate Like A Boss

Even if you’re versed in meditation or yoga, you’ll still reap the benefits of closing your eyes and taking a few deep breaths in high-pressure situations. MindBodyGreen explain this fantastic 4-7-8 breathing technique from the writings of Drs. Andrew Weil and Tierona Low Dog that we try and practice in the office here.

Here’s a quick run down of how you can do it too:

  1. Sit up straight in a chair.
  2. Place the tip of your tongue up against the roof of your mouth. Keep it there through the entire breathing process.
  3. Breathe in silently through your nose to the slow count of 4.
  4. Hold your breath to the count of 7.
  5. Exhale through your mouth to the count of 8, making a slight audible sound.
  6. Repeat the 4-7-8 cycle another three times, for a total of four breathing exercises.

Don’t forget, if you work in the Adelaide CBD and you feel your team is in need of some healthy stress release, email [email protected] to register your interest in a Utonic delivery this Thursday or Friday.
