Ursula Martinez To Open 2010 Feast Festival

my storiesThe Feast Festival has announced internationally acclaimed Anglo-Spanish cult cabaret diva Ursula Martinez as the opening attraction for the 2010 Festival. Presented in conjunction with The Adelaide Festival Centre Martinez will present the Australian premiere of her latest show My Stories Your Emails from 11 – 13 November for three performances only in the Space Theatre.

London-based Ursula Martinez is an original cast member of the contemporary circus/cabaret phenomena La Clique. In My Stories Your Emails Martinez invites us to meet the ordinary and extraordinary characters in her life and in her inbox.

Noted for her use of nudity and non-actors My Stories, Your Emails builds upon her notoriety gained from the popularity of an unauthorised internet video of her famous cabaret strip-tease magic act Hanky Panky – a disappearing handkerchief magic routine, where each piece of clothing that hides the handkerchief is discarded… she then repeats until she is nude (and still makes the handkerchief disappear!). The internet posting lead to to a flood of emails (some with pictorial attachments) from men from around the world – keen to get to know her better. In the second half of the show Ursula reads some of this correspondence – and shows the authors …er …attachments, on screen.

The show combines spoken word, live art, character comedy and stand-up. The result is a comical and uncompromising exploration of self-identity, the internet, fame, obsession, censorship, loneliness and human failure.

Commissioned by Barbicanbite 10 (London) and QueerUpNorth International Festival (Manchester) My Stories Your Emails was written and performed by Ursula Martinez and Directed by Mark  Whitelaw’
