Announcing the winner at the SA Tourism Industry Council’s Night of Nights at the Adelaide Convention Centre this evening (November 8, 2013), the judges praised Udder Delights for its many food tourism initiatives that have taken tourism excellence to exciting new levels while injecting fresh life into an already appealing tourism sector.

Key among these is its Udder Delights Cheese Cellar operation in Hahndorf that not only showcases the many handcrafted cheeses produced by the company’s cheese factory in Lobethal and offers tastings and sales but is a licensed cafe and providore.

It is also home to innovative tourism enterprises such as the Adelaide Hills Cheese & Wine Trail, the Easy Cheesy Home Cheesemaking Classes and the Udder Delights High Tea and creates and supplies a stunning array of cheese celebration cakes.

“We’re thrilled with this award as it vindicates our belief that fresh, wholesome and quality food made with love and passion can serve as a major contributor to local tourism,” said Sheree Sullivan, who runs the company with husband Saul.

“It’s also just reward for all the hard work we’ve put in to help position Hahndorf’s historic main street as a mecca for the excellent food and wine that’s synonymous with the region and wonderful to see food tourism take its rightful place at the top of the SA Tourism Industry Council’s and Tourism Australia’s agenda.”

The ‘Excellence in Tourism’ category was established in 2012 to recognise and reward excellence among organisations such as cooking schools, farmers markets, food cellar doors, food experiences and food trails and food touring companies that highlight and use regional produce.

Udder Delights was established in the Adelaide Hills town of Lobethal by Trevor Dunford and his late wife Estelle as a goat cheese factory in 1999. Under the expert guidance of their daughter Sheree and her husband Saul Sullivan, the company has grown to become a renowned and respected brand across Australia, boasting a range that comprises the inaugural Udder Delights goat cheeses, Divine Dairy cow’s milk French style cheeses and the new Cremeux range. The Group also runs its Udder Delights Cellar Door outlet in Hahndorf.
