Vachel Spirason in Truth

In a case of circular storytelling, a raconteur lost in the woods comes across a naked man running with a mysterious bag. The tale of what happens next spirals through a cavalcade of eccentric characters until it ends where it begins, only now from the other side.

Performer Vachel Spirason has developed this very funny, albeit nonsensical comedy with producer Stephanie Brotchie. Is he a madman chronicling his adventures or an actor showing off his talent? The question is put, but it's up to you to decide.

Vachel interacts with the audience and has a bemusing black gloved arm for an assistant. Central to his antics is a plasma ball, which launches one of many eccentric characters each time it's touched. None of the characters seem related to the main tale, yet each vignette adds to the overall hilarity of the show and allows Spirason's versatility and grasp of accents to really shine. Particular highlights include Rico (Canada's most revered ice skater), Juan Ignacio Manchego de la Mancha Ortega de Luiz (a fiery Spaniard with a long name), and Victor the Stripper – all who display Spirason's fine dancing skills too.

The performance is a bundle of energy and, whether he's telling the story or lap dancing a member of the audience, Spirason is shameless and doesn't falter or flail. He's exhausting to watch and extremely funny for lovers of oddball humour.
