We all know the logistics involved in sorting a night out on the town with your mates. While there’s a dozen apps to sort your ride in, track down your mates and take endless selfies and snaps, there was never a decent solution for figuring out which destinations deserved your precious booze dollars. Those venues are in the same situation, with no ability beyond indirect marketing to reach their thirsty audience, often relying on dodgy coupon deals that don’t make them any money or get folks through the doors.
Here to fill that void is SHOUTback, a social marketing app that promotes venues’ drinks and entertainment packages directly to patrons with no crappy promotions service taking their unearned cut – meaning better deals for you and your mates! Adelaide local boys Mitchell Stapleton-Coory and Matthew Giorgio developed the app in the second half of last year, and took out the top prize in the Tech eChallenge supported by Microsoft and University of Adelaide late last year for their ingenious proposal to revolutionise the way venues connect with their clientele.
SHOUTback is an ingeniously simple proposal: Venues connected to the app network ‘shout’ deals at users, offering a drinks, food or entertainment package. Potential customers then ‘SHOUTback’ at the venue’s deal, pre-purchasing the deal through the app before you’ve even left home. Not only does this mean you’re never going to lose your card on a dim d-floor somewhere, but you’ll also save huge amounts of time and money trying to hunt down those happy hour specials.
Additionally, the return for venues who join the app is immediate, as Mitchell explained, “There are a lot of fine establishments out there who need a digital channel that is not entirely focused on bargains and deals. The truth is, hospitality is a very transient space and every venue is different, so these businesses need a customisable platform that lets them reach their customers on their terms.”
A number of popular Adelaide venues are already on board, like Bar Torino, Hains & Co, 2KW, Electra House & BRKLYN. The app will ultimately roll out to 100-150 venues across Australia, so there’ll be no shortage of choices on offer for users trying to find that perfect night out.
