As 2017 comes to an end, our lists of events and parties ramp up. Whether you’re into checking out new bars, markets, wine and dining, the races or cricket, December has it all. Here’s a round up of what’s on this month.
1 December – Urban Beach launches. This summer, Pinky Flat on the Adelaide Riverbank will be transformed into a sandy oasis for Adelaide’s first Urban Beach. So, slide on your shades, grab the sunscreen and get some sand between your toes. There’s sumptuous summer foods, splash about in the water play area, and have go at summer sports such as beach volleyball, netball, badminton, table tennis and Frisbee golf; or try your hand at a game of totem tennis, Bocce or even Finska!
1 December – Moonlight Cinemas season launches. Grab all your mates and snap up a grassy patch because Moonlight Cinema is returning to Adelaide for another season of films under the stars.
1 December – Lighting of the Giant Christmas Tree in Victoria Square. Bring the whole family and celebrate the lighting of the Giant Christmas Tree on Friday the 1st December. Bring the family and join in the fun with music, food and festivities from 6-9pm. The tree will then be lit up from each night through the festive season. This year the tree will be sure to surprise with a brand new magical display features. Underneath the tree the kids can also play in the interactive water feature that also lights up – great fun for the whole family on a hot summer’s night! More info here.
1 December– Howard-Life Terrace Session. Howard Vineyards are hosting a relaxed evening of eating a drinking on their lawns. Enjoy a Pirate Life Beer or Howard Vineyard wine and indulge on delicious food from their Yum Cha menu whilst listening to some live tunes. 1 December – Backyard Cricket Pontoon (BYC Pontoon) launches. The famed Adelaide Festival Pontoon lives to see another day, starting the first weekend of December as a celebration of the great Australian tradition of backyard cricket transforming the pontoon into the best place to watch The Ashes (outside the oval, that is)!!
1, 8 & 15 December – Friday Twilight at The Lane Vineyard. Theres no better way to wine down from a busy week than on The Lane deck overlooking the estate. At The Lane Vineyard we enjoy some of the best after work drinks around. We thought through December it’s only fair that we share them with our friends and yours. Drop by for a glass of wine and casual ‘deck friendly’ plates from the chef! Kicks off Fridays from 5 – 9 PM
2 December – Home Ground launches. The highly anticipated Home Ground precinct launches with new Riverbank-facing bars and eateries.
2 December – Mclaren Vale Distillery Bloodstone Whisky & Canape Degustation at Hains & Co. John Rochfort, Master Distiller at Mclaren Vale Distillery is teaming up with Hains & Co to present a night of unreleased Bloodstone Single Malts paired with canapés. 5 Unreleased Bloodstone Single Malts expertly paired with 1 entree & 4 canapés prepared and presented by John Rochfort. Tickets $80 Bookings essential, limited seating.
2- 6 December– Second Magellan Ashes Test, Adelaide Oval. The Ashes, one of the world’s greatest sporting contests, returns to Australia for the first time in four years, with Adelaide Oval set to host the second match in the highly anticipated series and the first ever day-night Magellan Ashes Test. The fierce on field rivalry, the unforgettable crowd atmosphere and the unique energy of day-night Test cricket make this a truly unmissable event. Here’s a list of places to eat, drink and watch the cricket around the city.
3 December- Sunday Sesh with Tasty Jam Band, Plant 4 Bowden. Who doesn’t love a good ol’ Sunday sesh!? Whilst grooving along to the funky fusion of soul and blues band, ‘Tasty Jam,’ the Plant 4 Bar will be serving some delicious (as per usual) local craft beer, gin, cider and wine. They’ll also be pairing up with Juice Quest serve up some fruity cocktails! From 3pm – 6pm this sounds like a nice way to spend the last few hours of freedom before the Monday drag kicks in. 3 December– Gilles Street Grand Bazaar, Gilles Street Markets. Everyone’s favourite Sunday market is getting festive. Packed with all your summer fashion favourites, teamed back with vintage styles and Christmas gift ideas, this is definitely not one to miss. There’s going to be live entertainment, amazing food and over 170 exhibitors.. not to mention a gorgeous boho lounge set up to kick back at and enjoy the sunshine.
7 December- Tailor Made Strings Launch, Hoosegow. Playing the 70s-inspired classics, you can enjoy your charcoal deliciousness dinner and entertainment by Tailor Made Strings ‘an eclectic string based group of professional musicians a fusion of classic and contemporary sounds’ Featuring Gary Isaacs on guitar and vocals, Ian ‘Polly’ Politis on vocals, Catriona Mckenzie on violin, Sandy Hoskins on cello and Karen DeNardi on violin. Best of all? It’s free entry!
8 December– The Ebenezer Night Markets. The Ebenezer Night Markets are back for the summer! Go along to one of Adelaide’s coolest streets to enjoy some fashion, jewellery, delicious food and all sorts of unique artistic creations! Why not grab a drink at the Market Bar or sit and listen to the Live DJ play some groovy tunes while enjoying the amazing East End atmosphere. The markets begin from 5.30pm.
9 December– Adelaide Hills Wine Race Day, Morphettville Racecourse. The Adelaide Hills Wine Race Day is your chance to experience amazing Adelaide Hills Wines with your friends and family on the lawns whilst enjoying the excitement of Adelaide’s horse racing. The Adelaide Hills Wine Race Day is also a family friendly event with an enclosed area for children to enjoy meeting Santa, pony rides, face painting, a petting zoo and much more. Best of all, it’s completely FREE!
9 December- ACE Open Summer Party, ACE Open, ACE Across & Lion Arts Centre Courtyard. There is A LOT going down at this Summer Party! The day will feature a mini-golf set up, markets, live performances, exhibitions, raffle prizes, BBQ and an Antipodes Gin cocktail bar! A little bit of everything for everyone! The party is on from 3pm to 7pm – Entrance is free.
10 December– Glenelg Sunset Markets. After a successful launch last summer, The Glenelg Sunset Markets will return bigger and better! Delivering the ultimate outdoor market to the beach, bringing local makers and creatives together at Glenelg foreshore. Over 60 stall holders, delicious local eats and live music! The markets are on from 4.30pm to 8.30pm.
12 December- 1 January– Club Swizzle, Adelaide Festival Centre. Club Swizzle is back this December. Following a smash hit premiere Adelaide season in 2016, the acclaimed melange of outrageous cabaret, air-defying acrobatics and infectious musical revelry returns (with a twist) for a limited run. Loose, glorious and irresistibly fun, Club Swizzle is a night of sassy entertainment where the mayhem gets kicked up a notch. Tickets are available here.
15 December- 24 December– Christmas Fun in the Square. This year, Christmas Fun in the Square will be more magical than ever. A brand new festive family hub is being created right in the heart of Adelaide and it’s launching just in time for the school holidays. Free to enter and open daily, Christmas Fun in the Square will see Victoria Square/Tarntanyangga transformed into a playful wonderland bursting with colour, candy canes, lights, music, food trucks and a sleigh-load of merry-making activities to put smiles on faces young and old.
15 December– Land Rover Polo in the City. Land Rover Polo in the City is a rare opportunity to witness some of Australia’s best professional polo talent. The event will showcase the best of the best in a sport that has been around for two thousand years. Witness the excitement of Australia’s top professional polo players competing for the trophy from the comfort and glamour of the acclaimed VIP Marquee. 15 December– Twilight Races, Morphetville Racecourse. Wrap up 2017 with friends or work colleagues at the Twilight Races, with a balmy afternoon of racing, entertainment and beautiful trackside hospitality. Kicking off in the afternoon, head down to Morphettville after work in your summer best, or feel free to take a more casual approach to race wear. Books tickets here.
15 December – G.H. MUMM Champagne Party. Say au revoir to the last City Cellar Door of the year with a G.H.MUMM Champagne party at the National Wine Centre. Free entry. Doors kick off from 4:30pm.
15 December – Forkmas. Attention Food Truck lovers? Christmas has come early! Fork on the Road bringing Forkmas to Victoria Square from 5pm to 9pm this Friday. Keep an eye on the event page for updates.
15 December – KI Tastings at the Central Market. Kangaroo Island producers will be at the Adelaide Central Market this Friday from 11.30am to 2.30pm, and 4.30pm to 7.30pm. For more information, see the event page.
15 December – Wine and Cheese Picnic @ Hindmarsh Square. There will be wine and cheese produces plus one ice creamery for a twilight picnic this friday from 4.30pm until 8pm.
15 December – Two Sisters Street Party. Two Sisters, the Goodwood Road suburban small bar, is holding a Celebrate Summer street party. The party will kick off at 3pm on Friday and entry is free. For more information, see the event page.
17 December– Greaton Christmas in the Park. Christmas in the Park is bringing the magic and spirit of Christmas to Light Square in Adelaide’s very trendy west end. Promising a day full of Christmas cheer with live music, entertainment, kids’ rides, a variety of local food stalls, gift stalls, pop up wine bar and more- there’s something for everyone to enjoy. Best of all it’s free entry and all gold coin donations will go towards the Salvation Army for those warm and fuzzy feels this festive season. 19 December – 31 December – Carl’s Jr Burger Month
Not so much an event unless you count eating cheeseburgers as an event-worthy occasion (which we do), Carl’s Jr. will be offering $2 cheeseburgers with any purchase and $3 double cheeseburgers with any purchase for the rest of December up in Mt Barker. Boo-yah!
25 December – CHRISTMAS DAY
25 December– Christmas Breakfast, Mayfair Hotel. Celebrate Christmas day with a premium buffet breakfast in the Mayflower Restaurant adorned with festive enhancements. 25 December– Christmas Dining at The Promenade, Stamford Grand Adelaide. Start your Christmas day with a delectable buffet selection of Christmas favourites at Stamford Grand Adelaide. 25 December– Christmas Breakfast in TG’S Restaurant, Stamford Plaza Adelaide. Enjoy a Christmas morning breakfast with family or friends in the heart of the Adelaide CBD. 25 December– An Argentinean Christmas Day Lunch in La Boca, La Boca Bar & Grill. Enjoy a traditional Argentinean and seafood buffet in the colourful surrounds of La Boca Bar and Grill this Christmas. Your family will love the slow cooked Argentinean meats and the abundant fresh seafood on this festive buffet. Tickets are $99 per adult and can be purchased here.
26 December– Boxing Day Races, Morphetville Racecourse. Boxing Day at Morphettville is a family favourite as it’s the perfect opportunity to catch up with friends and family you couldn’t fit in on Christmas Day.There will be an exciting program of kids activities including sporting activities, crafts, games, face painting and more. For the parents, they’ve thought of you too – there’ll be pop-up bars, and a big screen showing the Cricket all day. Tickets are $15 for adults and kids get in free!

30 December- 1 January- The Sailing Club, Soldiers Memorial Gardens, Victor Harbour. The Sailing Club is back with another epic NYE party! Serving up great tunes, food and plenty of bubbles down at the beach. What a way to ring in the new year!

31 December– New Year’s Eve Glow Party, Stamford Grand Adelaide. Ring in the New Year at Grand Bar’s Glow Party!
