The Feeding

The 2011 BigPond Adelaide Film Festival is delighted to announce THE FEEDING, directed by gastronomer, author and restaurateur Gay Bilson following her ground breaking and memorable mass feeding events for the Adelaide Festival of the Arts.

Using produce of the region, a team of some of the finest local chefs from restaurants including D’Arry’s Verandah, Fino, Salopian Inn, Penny’s Hill Kitchen Door, Russell’s Pizza and more will prepare a FEEDING for over 1,000 patrons on stunning Pt Willunga Beach.

As you arrive on the beach, exchange your ticket for a handmade ceramic bowl, especially created for the event by the Jam Factory’s award winning ceramicist Prue Venables. As dinner is served, it will be filled with delectable produce. The meal will be simple, fresh, and fulfil the tenets of Slow Food: good, clean and fair. Fill your bowl, enjoy the food, and then take your bowl home.

As the sun sets, savour the exceptional flavours of the Fleurieu and absorb the wonderful view, as you are entertained with live music and projections on the cliffs. This will be a truly magical experience for all the senses.

ABOUT GAY BILSON

Gay Bilson was for 25 years (1973-1998) a restaurateur and cook in Sydney, centrally, as owner of Berowra Waters Inn for 18 years. She has created and directed several events centred on food and community, often for the Adelaide Festival, and was an associate director under Peter Sellars for this festival in 2002, producing programs such as Nourish (feeding patients in a large public hospital) and The Edible Library.  She is the author of Plenty: Digressions on Food (Penguin 2004 and On Digestion (Melbourne University Publishing, 2008).  Gay Bilson lives in rural South Australia, believing, with Cicero, that ‘If you have a garden and a library you have everything you need,’ except that, 2000 years later, she would add water and the internet to these requirements.

All tickets $30 including meal and your Jam Factory bowl to keep. On sale 1 December 2010.
