Wine lovers, clear your calendar. The annual Clare Valley Gourmet Weekend is on this weekend, Friday 13- Monday 16 May 2016. More than 5000 visitors are expected to attend the highly anticipated event, which commemorates the region’s delicious food, award winning wines and country hospitality.

Approximately 25 wineries and restaurants will be involved, highlighting fresh, seasonal produce with new and old vintage wine releases. The Clare Valley Gourmet Weekend will feature a variety of events at participating wineries and featured venues from Auburn to Clare. The festival will see the return of the popular ‘Gourmet Hub’, located at the Clare Valley Wine Food & Tourism Centre throughout the weekend, plus the Clare Valley Cuisine’s annual Gourmet Market on Saturday 14 May.

Chair of the Clare Valley Winemakers Incorporated Matthew Lawson said the 2016 Clare Valley Gourmet Weekend is a highlight on the calendar for many locals and tourists alike.

“The Clare Valley Gourmet Weekend is an iconic regional celebration,” Matt said. “As the oldest consecutive running food and wine festival in Australia, the weekend celebrates the very best that the Clare Valley has to offer. Many visitors enjoy the popular winery festivities, quality wines and regional food.”

“There are a number of new and exciting additions to the 2016 program, and we can’t wait to showcase the region to travellers and visitors over the weekend in autumn- the perfect time to visit the Clare Valley,” he said.

Clare Valley Winemakers Incorporated Executive Officer Tania Matz said there will be plenty of activities and smaller special events for visitors to enjoy.

“If you want to visit the Clare Valley, the Gourmet Weekend is the best time to do so,” Tania said. “The festival gives visitors the opportunity to meet the winemakers and take part in regional culinary events, and try museum release wines- all in one weekend.”

“Organisers have also devised day trip itineraries from Adelaide, plus weekend packages, making sure you don’t miss out on all the action,” she said. “We are working with the Crowne Plaza in Hindmarsh Square to bring people up to the region.”
