Getaway: The Reserve Might Just Be The Ultimate Barossa Escape

If you’re looking for a private, premium experience with space to stretch out and relax in the Barossa Valley, make sure you check out The Reserve.

Discovering premium lodgings in rural areas can be difficult at the best of times, with limited offerings out there for the discerning traveler. South Australia’s Barossa Valley is no different, with many gorgeous bed and breakfast options, but one of the only higher end options has been The Louise.

While The Louise is a gorgeous option, your accommodation is located in a cluster of other dwellings, next to a popular fine dining restaurant – Appelation.

Now there is another option if you’re looking for a private, premium experience with space to stretch out and relax.

The Reserve.

The Reserve is a B&B style residence, which sleeps up to 10 people and offers extreme privacy.  It’s great for families, groups of friends, or couples looking for an intimate getaway. There’s even room for your helicopter pilot or your nanny in a separate wing of the house.

Located among Australia’s best vineyards, The Reserve sits on six acres and accommodates up to 10 people in five bedrooms.

We stayed at The Reserve with three couples, a baby and a child and there was more than enough room. My partner and I took the separate wing, which allowed us to have our own bathroom and an adjoining room for the baby – which proved to be invaluable to the other guests when she spent the first night crying at all hours! This wing also included its own sitting area, TV and mini kitchenette where we could keep the baby’s food & milk and make our coffees in the morning.

One bedroom also had a queen bed, massive walk in robe and ensuite, while a second queen bedroom was situated next to a bathroom with a good sized bath within. The last bedroom was on the other side of the bathroom and included two single beds.

For the chillier months, the combustion fireplace is fantastic, and easily heats the living area, while a sun room which overlooks the vineyards and garden, houses a long rustic dining table which easily seats all guests.

There is the vault room, which has an old bank vault and comfy leather armchairs, ideal for drinking a stellar glass of wine, or reading a book away from the other guests.

The Reserve also has games and toys for kids, should you need them, although the ample lawns out the back of the residence are a great place for children to run around and enjoy themselves.

The outdoor area has to be my favourite however, with a large patio, huge table and chairs, wood fired oven for pizzas, beautiful urban chandeliers made from recycled wine barrel metal hoops, and amazing views over the flower filled gardens and vineyards. It’s amazing all year round.

Prices start at $1195 a night, so it’s definitely a splurge, but if you split it amongst a group, want an amazing getaway with your family, or you’re after somewhere special for a romantic getaway, The Reserve is worth checking out.
