A Kangaroo Island resort has been named the top resort in Australia in the Conde Nast Traveler 2018 Readers’ Choice Awards.

Southern Ocean Lodge scored 98.81 from a possible 100 in the awards, claiming best Australian resort and third place in the Australasia and South Pacific overall.

Conde Nast Traveler calls the resort: “a thoroughly evolved eco-wilderness lodge, this 21-suite human sanctuary has panoramic ocean views from the pristine clifftop brushland it inhabits.

“Rooms come with trekking gear (backpacks and water flasks), but cell phone reception is limited and not all suites have TVs. From the moment you walk into the vast atrium, your attention is drawn to the great outdoors.”

Souther Ocean Lodge’s sister property Longitude 131° at Uluru-Kata Tjuta was hot on its heels with a score of 98.21, placing the property second Australia and seventh in the region overall.

Coming in the number one spot overalls across Australasia and the South Pacific was The Farm at Cape Kidnappers in New Zealand’s Hawke’s Bay.

To rank the winners, more than 429,000 readers submitted millions of ratings and tens of thousands of comments, sharing their recent travel experiences of the world’s cities, islands, hotels, resorts, cruise lines, airlines, and airports.
