Founded in 2008 by Artistic Director, Gabriella Smart, Soundstream continues to create a national and international profile for contemporary classical music in South Australia.
As an annual independent music festival, Soundstream is committed to the development of contemporary music practices and the creation of new works through the support of both emerging and established Australian composers and performers. The result is a unique experience in contemporary chamber music, internationally recognized for its innovative programming and the highest artistic calibre, by engaging world-class performers.
Soundstream’s newly established media partnership with ABC Classic FM means audiences will now be able to experience three days of inspirational performances by Australia’s leading contemporary soloists and chamber musicians as live performances at the ABC Studios in Adelaide and via live broadcasts on ABC Classic FM.
Previously held at venues around the city of Adelaide and McLaren Vale, this 2010 festival will take place entirely in Studio 520 at the Collinswood ABC Studios, providing a more permanent home for the festival.
The opening night of the 2010 Festival celebrates visionary composers of the 20th and 21st century: featuring the South Australian première of George Antheil’s famed Ballet Mécanique.
The festival will also present The Spectralists on Friday 27th August, The Rebels on Saturday 28th August, and The Larrikins on Saturday 28th August.
