SA’s Barossa a finalist in bid to host international Social Media Tourism Symposium

South Australia is one of four finalists in a bid to host the 2014 Social Media Tourism Symposium 2014 with the world renowned Barossa wine region.

Recognised as the world’s premier social media conference for destination marketers, the conference will bring 200 international social media tourism marketers to the successful destination in July 2014.

The Barossa, South Australia has been selected alongside Mackay, Townsville and Geelong – presenting a fantastic opportunity to showcase South Australia and it’s amazing tourism experiences. The national and international delegates are destination marketing specialists and South Australia is inviting them to #BeConsumed in the #Barossa for #SoMeT14AU!

In true digital marketing style, the final destination will be selected via an online voting process, with the four finalists rallying support via their social media channels. It’s over to the South Australian public to show their support for the Barossa and for SA, by spreading the word and voting via facebook.

Round One of voting commences this Monday 17 Feb at 8am (EST) and finishes Wednesday Feb 19 at 5pm (EST) and the top two destinations with the most votes will go head-to-head to win the event in Round Two on Friday 21 Feb at 8am-5pm (EST). Voting takes place via a dedicated voting tab on the SoMeTourism Facebook page.

This opportunity to host #SoMeT14AU comes hard on the heels of recent successes for the Barossa and South Australia, with South Australian Tourism Commission’s Barossa Be Consumed campaign achieving stunning results in increased visitation, as well as international accolades. The Barossa’s recent inclusion in Wine Enthusiast Magazines annual Top 10 Wine Destinations serves to underscore the region’s international appeal. A successful Barossa bid would once again catapult South Australia into the limelight as a world class tourism destination.
