We all love a good, local success story, and South Australia’s Frewville Foodland IGA keeps on delivering.

We all love a good, local success story, and South Australia’s Frewville Foodland IGA keeps on delivering. The amazing supermarket has yet again received international acclaim, winning the coveted title of Australian International Retailer of the Year for the second consecutive year as part of the 2017 IGA Global Awards.
Owned and operated by Nick and Spero Chapley of the Commercial Retail Group (CRG) for more than 27 years, Frewville Foodland IGA tied with Taylor Road IGA in Western Australia to claim the title. This is the first time that joint winners have been crowned out of more than 1,000 independently owned IGA supermarkets around Australia.
The IGA Global Awards are part of the 2017 IGA Global Rally, held in conjunction with the National Grocers Association’s Show at The Mirage Hotel and Casino in Las Vegas, 10 – 12 February 2017.
Last year, Frewville Foodland IGA was also recognised at the national Metcash Supermarkets and Convenience Expo on the Gold Coast, winning five awards as part of the IGA Awards of Excellence including:
  • National Retailer of the Year (joint winner with Taylor Road IGA, WA)
  • Foodland IGA Store of the Year
  • Foodland IGA Produce Department of the Year
  • Foodland IGA Bakery Department of the Year
  • Foodland IGA Delicatessen Department of the Year

Frewville Foodland IGA offers the complete package of a progressive and intuitive grocery retailing approach to its community.  From the in-store piano player and cooking demonstrations, to beautiful live plants growing on its exterior, the supermarket has created a unique shopping experience for its customers.

“It is imperative to us that we demonstrate exemplary service and build strong relationships with our customers, community and suppliers who are at the core of our business and its success,” said Spero Chapley, General Manager of CRG.
The Chapley family set themselves high standards of excellence and continually experiment and innovate in order to create growth and opportunities. What motivates the family most is creating real growth in jobs and careers. During the last two years, the Frewville store has seen a 55 per cent growth in permanent positions, now at 300 jobs.
“We go to extraordinary lengths to delight our customers and we understand that outstanding customer service is a result of our teams’ enthusiasm in service to our community and in-depth knowledge and excitement about the products we sell,” said Mr. Chapley.
As part of the group’s direction they introduced the Mr. Nick’s Kitchen & Coffee Bar restaurant in 2016. Creating a union between shopping and food appreciation to encourage clients to enjoy their precincts, create a vibe and to showcase signature products and brands.
“It is an opportunity to merge our best of the best products, brands, growers, farmers, fishers and suppliers into an integrated in-store customer experience,” Mr. Chapley added.
Frewville Foodland IGA’s produce department has an impressive range of fresh fruit and vegetables, which includes an extensive organic offering and a large section dedicated to providing Asian products. The unique and creative merchandising techniques used to showcase fresh produce in the department create a real wow factor.
Frewville Foodland IGA has a strong ‘foodie’ culture and our vision is beyond what you might expect at a typical supermarket – we are all about a strong dedication to quality, passion for food, high standards in customer service and to live our mantra ‘We love what we do’,” Mr. Chapley explained.
The foodie and coffee culture of the Frewville Foodland IGA creates a positive and unique ambience and social setting with an osteria-scene displaying simple and diverse food with an emphasis on local specialities – a place where everyone is welcomed and where the iconic marketplace aspects such as seafood, delicatessen, bakery and produce create a precinct soul that engages and delights on every visit.
“We feel honoured that the passion for what we do has been internationally recognised and awarded for second year in a row,” said Mr. Chapley, “It is a huge credit to our entire team and network of fantastic suppliers and producers who all collectively contribute to the success of Frewville Foodland IGA.”
