Reds Youth Miss Out On NYL Grand Final Berth

Adelaide United YouthAdelaide United Youth Team’s season has ended one game shy of the grand final after the young Reds went down 1-nil to Perth Glory Youth their National Youth League semi final at Clipsal Stadium in Perth.

A 23rd minute goal from Glen Trifiro was enough for Perth to edge out the young Reds for a place in the season decider.

The home side managed to settle better in the do-or-die encounter as they forced United onto the back foot in the early stages, and in the 23rd minute they went ahead through Trifiro’s goal, which would end up proving the difference.

United came out a different side after half time as they chased an equaliser, the Reds putting the Glory defence under the pump, but despite their best efforts they could not find the back of the net.

While the young Reds will be disappointed not to have the chance to feature in their second National Youth League Grand Final, there are still a number of positives to come out of the season as their third placed finish at the end of the minor round again proved that South Australia’s young players are among the best in the country.

Perth Glory will meet Gold Coast United in the National Youth League season decider on March 20.
