Brodinski (Techno / House / Reims, France)

Brodinski is part of the fluokids phenomenon – the French music blog that knows what’s what. He doesn’t drink, doesn’t take drugs and it’s obvious to watch him DJ that he thrives off the crowd (he can’t help but dance). Brodinski recently made a mix to accompany French streetwear label Hixsept and is preparing for his second release with Grizzly Records. Good mates with Yuksek, the two DJs have banded together to produce tracks full of noisy techno and heavy bass. There’s a softer side to Brodinski though, he often puts up melodic minimal mixtapes on his blog. He’s been DJing since he was 15 – so at a ripe age of 23 will show off his skills on the decks.

danblackDan Black (Indie-pop/ Electro / London, UK)

Dan Black has been taking over radiowaves and climbing music charts with hit track ‘Symphonies’, featuring Kid Kudi. The clip has had over 1.5 million video hits online. His debut album UN was released last year after his successful performance at Glastonbury. Black created a stir with his breakthrough song ‘HYPNTZ’: a mashup of Notorious B.I.G’s ‘Hypnotize’ and Rihanna’s ‘Umbrella’. He gained further popularity when his album track ‘U + Me =’ was chosen as the UK iTunes Store’s Free single of the Week. Black sang a track on the Bag Raiders upcoming album – fingers crossed for a live duo on the Parklife stages! Black is formerly a member of alternative band The Servant and guest vocalist for Planet Funk. Channel V have jumped on the sound – with ‘Symphonies’ picked as a ‘Ripe Clip of the Week’. darwinDarwin Deez (Indie-pop / Alternative, New York, USA)

Darwin Deez have been predicted by Fuzzy to be the “La Roux of last year” – the act set to blow up by the time they grace the Parklife stage. Parklife will be Darwin Deez’ first time in Australia. Darwin Deez, fronted by lead-singer of the same name, released their self-titled album in April, with first singles ‘Constellations’ and ‘Radar Detective’ on high rotation on triple j. Deez is known just as much for busting out in Napolean Dynamite-style, Beyonce-inspired co-ordinated dance stylings randomly on stage as he is for his infectious indie-pop tunes. Just four months ago, Deez was waiting tables in the same New York restaurant as Devendra Banhart was when he was beginning his musical career. From NY, Darwin Deez are picking up acclaim from every direction for Deez’ clever lyrics and lo-fi sound, bringing to mind everyone from The Stores and Beck to MGMT and The Flaming Lips.

Their live set is filled with energy, passion as they deliver their indie pop, euro techno and airy melodic beats drawing upon their collective Balearic dance-music heritage.

groovarmadaGroove Armada (Indie/House / London, UK)

Groove Armada released a new album Black Light in February, which reveals a darker side of Groove Armada that has finally come out after 12 years – they’re moving in an exciting new direction. First singles off the new album included ‘Paper Romance’, ‘I Won’t Kneel’ and ‘Look me in the eye sister’. Will have an amazing live show to accompany. Basically a household name, Groove Armada’s previous albums have had benchmark tracks to provide the soundtrack to the last decade, with hits like ‘At the River’, ‘I See You Baby’, ‘Superstylin’’ and ‘My Friend’. Groove Armada is comprised of Londoners Andy Cato and Tom Findlay who have cemented their sound onto the electro-house music world. grumGrum (Electro,/Nu-Disco, Leeds, UK)

Grum won fans with his monstrous debut single ‘Runaway’, garnering support from luminaries such as Annie Mac and Zane Lowe. He was the second most blogged artist on Hype Machine, just behind Radiohead, with the track. Artists like Friendly Fires, Armand van Helden and Late Of The Pier have all requested his remixing talents. Grum’s album Heartbeats was just released in May, with the single ‘Can’t Shake This Feeling’ making the MTV Dance C List. REVIEWS “God, disco is big, isn’t it? Parklife will be Holy Ghost!’s first live show in Australia. Jack Beats (Electro/Dubstep / UK)

Jack Beats were one of the most loved and talked about acts at Field Day earlier this year. Their latest EP featuring ‘The Revolution’ and ‘Out of Body’ is coming out this month. Jack Beats is Beni G and Plus One – two of the UK’s finest turntablists, who have joined forces. Together they have won multiple DMC Awards. Beni G is formerly of the Mixologists, while Plus one is from the legendary Scratch Perverts. They’ve joined the Cheap Thrills posse alongside Sinden and Jesse Rose has just released his first EP whilst working under his own record label Made To Play – Sleep Less (Night One and Night Two). He also owns music label Front Room Recordings and co-owns Loungin’ Recordings. Based in Berlin, Rose has come on the Parklife tour before – remembered fondly for stealing a golf buggy and cruising the streets of Brisbane…! He is credited for starting the fidget house movement (defined by snatched vocal snippets, pitch-bent dirty basslines and rave-style synth stabs over glitchy beats) – he was apparently mucking around, and then it took off as a style of its own! Known as the “house music hobbit” by Diplo, Rose has collaborated with the likes of Hot Chip and Major Lazor. REVIEWS “Your average club-goer may not know what to call the hybrid house being made by Jesse Rose, but there’s no mistaking its potent mix of mind-numbingly crisp techno/house beats, gritty sample riddled melodies and bassbin-blowing subsonics or its effectiveness on a dancefloor” -xlr8r Magazine

Memory Tapes (Electronica / New Jersey, USA)

When Fuzzy first saw Memory Tapes live at SXSW they were head over heels in love. Memory Tapes is a recording alias for New-Jersey based Dayve Hawke, who has previously worked under the monikers Memory Cassette and Weird Tapes. He released his first LP Seek Magic (hit song ‘Bicycle’) last September, with outstanding reviews across the board, making the reclusive Hawke very much in demand. A reluctant rock star, Hawke doesn’t own a phone or know how to drive and juggles his time between looking after his daughter, making amazing buoyantly skewed pop and remixing the likes of Phoenix, Britney Spears and even Michael Jackson.

mighnightMidnight Juggernauts (Indie-dance / Victoria, Australia)

Aussie favourite, the Midnight Juggernauts have just released their second album The Crystal Axis in late May to glowing reviews – it was triple j’s album of the week w/c 26 May. The Melbourne trio, composed of Andrew Szekeres, Vincent Vendetta and Daniel Stricker (formerly the drummer of Lost Valentinos), have been garnering a massive international fan base after their tour of the world festival circuit, including Coachella, Fuji Rock, Glastonbury and Montreaux Jazz Festival. Dystopia, the Juggers first album, launched the boys into a vortex of global intrigue with their retro-futurist videos, and they found themselves hailed as de facto pioneers of a new frontier of indie-dance music. Following their time performing overseas, the Juggers were brimming with creative energy and ready to experiment on their latest release, which is full of grand-synth operas, droned out psych-rock sojourns and groove-based jams. The Midnight Juggernauts run the label Siberia Records, which they released their latest album through.

They will be performing a brand new show for Parklife! Soulwax (Electro / Ghent, Belgium)

Soulwax will be bringing new music and a new live show to Parklife… and if it’s anything like their last, it’s going to be absolutely mental. The notorious Belgium dance collective is made up of the 2 Many DJs brothers Stephen and David Dewaele, as well as Stefaan Van Leuven and Steve Slingeneyer. Soulwax captured all the chaos from their ‘07/08 international tour in their documentary Part of the Weekend Never Dies – which is basically the most outrageous, full-on moments of 120 shows captured in one streaming, mixed with guest appearances from friends like Erol Alkan and Tiga. The Glitch Mob (Electro/ Dubstep / California, USA)

The Glitch Mob’s sets at Parklife will be their first ever shows in Australia, with a new albumto boot. They’ve just released their first full-length album Drink The Sea. They completely sold out their tour of major US venues from coast to coast simply by word of mouth. They’ve said that they’re “here to slaughter their audience” – and with a notoriously full-on live show we believe them! Described as “the Chemical Brothers of dubstep”, the Californian trio of edit, Ooah and Boreta are armed with laptops to create a powerful blend of glitched out beats with grinding bass lines, pushing the boundaries of trip-hop with their visceral, innovative performances. They’ve set up speakers and generators renegade-style in the streets of San Francisco for a guerilla-style beat warfare in public – who knows what they might do in Australia.

The Wombats (Indie-pop/Alternative / Liverpool, UK)

The Wombat’s are possibly best known for their 2008 indie-rock hit ‘Let’s Dance to Joy Division’, which won them an NME Award for ‘Best Dancefloor Filler’ and has had over 1 million hits on youtube. They are currently working on their new album, which should be ready right in time for Parklife. The trio of lads are from Liverpool England and went to the same performance school as Paul McCartney (Liverpool Institute of Performing arts – where they met). The Wombats have performed at Glastonbury Festival, Reading and Leeds Festival – this is their second time out to Australia (last headed over in Jan 2008). The boys have toured with Kaiser Chiefs and Babyshambles, and are currently missing an important part of their own touring party – a little plush wombat that was nicked off a guitar during a show at KOKO. Parisian-based electro artist, vocalist, rapper, and songwriter; Uffie has been described as a muse for French DJs – with her cute, flirty, auto-tune vocals.
