National Wine Centre Announces Their Winter Food & Wine Festival

National Wine CentreThe National Wine Centre will host the inaugural Winter Food & Wine Festival on Sunday, August 24, as part of its increased offering in 2014.

The Festival will take over all corners of the Hackney Road Centre in an ‘open day’ style event to promote the incredible diversity of wine and produce from South Australia’s regions.

McLaren Vale, Clare Valley, Adelaide Hills and Barossa are just a few of the participating wine regions.

National Wine Centre General Manager Adrian Emeny said the festival comes at a time when Adelaide desperately needs to fill activity outside of Mad March.

“We tend to see winter as a bit of a hibernation style period in Adelaide but we are determined to help keep the diversity and activity in the city all year round. If we can add to this activity in small way we will be happy,” Mr Emeny said.

“This is also about attracting people to the premier wine facility in Australia and showing off all the incredible things we have put in place in 2014 such as our new wine tasting facilities and renovated exhibition space.”

The Festival will have a regional food and wine focus and will showcase premier South Australia’s wine regions all in the one spot – right in the heart of the City. Wine tastings will be on offer for wine enthusiasts and novices alike with live bands and DJs all day to entertain the crowd.

National Wine Centre’s Executive Chef Philip Pope will prepare gourmet dishes incorporating regional produce.

Some local providores from the Adelaide Hills Farmers Market are also partnering with the Centre and will have their fresh winter produce for sale to the public in the city location.

Adelaide Hills Farmers Market organiser Dominique Lieb said “we are thrilled to bring a few of our market stallholders into the heart of Adelaide”.

“We are hugely thankful that the Wine Centre continues to provide opportunities for regional organisations to bring their brand into the city. This is hopefully the start of a long and prosperous relationship,” Ms Lieb said.

The Centre will also host food and wine master classes throughout the day.

“We hope to make the month of August a celebration of South Australia’s wonderful wine and with plenty of space on the events calendar we hope people will come out  in force to make these an regular event with the potential for it to grow in the coming years,” Mr Emeny said.

The National Wine Centre’s Winter Food & Wine Festival will be held on Sunday, August 24, from 11am til late.

Tickets are $10 for early bird purchases or $15 on the day. Tickets include a Spiegelau wine glass.

Food and wine master classes will be held at midday, 2pm and 4pm. Tickets are $20 and bookings are essential.
