New Floats Revealed For The 2017 Christmas Pageant – Only 44 Sleeps To Go!

The 2018 Christmas Pageant is fast approaching and three new floats have been unveiled for this year’s event.

It’s time to dust off the tinsel and the santa hats, our favourite time of year is just around the corner!

With just 44 sleeps to go, three magical new floats have been unveiled today as the countdown begins to the 85th Credit Union Christmas Pageant on 18 November 2017.

85 Years Let’s Celebrate, The Royal Christmas Ball and The Soft Toys floats are sure to become firm favourites with Pageant fans this year, adding to the colour and festivities of the parade.

In 1933, the first Christmas Pageant delivered Father Christmas in Rundle Mall (then Rundle Street) to the people of South Australia.

Brian Gilbertson, Event Director, Credit Union Christmas Pageant said this year in order to commemorate 85 years of Pageant magic Father Christmas will return to Rundle Mall, with the Pageant finishing at the corner of North Terrace and Kintore Avenue.

“We are really excited to be taking Father Christmas down Gawler Place and into Rundle Mall, before taking up his residence at the Magic Cave at David Jones after he has arrived on the landing stage on North Terrace.”

Robert Keogh, Chair, Credit Union Pageant Company said the credit unions are proud to be a part of this iconic event.

“The Credit Union Christmas Pageant is more than just a one day event for us; it continues to be an ongoing commitment by the more than 800 people who work or are associated with the credit unions,” said Robert Keogh.

“We look forward to seeing the happy expressions on everyone’s face on Pageant day as we celebrate 85 years of Pageant magic.”

The first Christmas Pageant was held during the Great Depression in 1933, created by Sir Edward Hayward (Mr Bill), it featured approximately eight floats and four bands. Today, it has grown to the largest parade of its kind.

More than 320,000 people are expected to line the Pageant route as Father Christmas makes his way from South Terrace to North Terrace.

The Credit Union Christmas Pageant is owned and managed by the South Australian Tourism Commission and is sponsored by People’s Choice Credit Union, Beyond Bank Australia, Credit Union SA and Police Credit Union.

The 2017 Credit Union Christmas Pageant will take place at 9:30 am, Saturday 18 November. Visit www.cupageant.com.au to download the 2017 route map and full float list.
