Online experiment with Twitter using stand up comedy – #twandup10

Social ButterfliesThe Social [Media] Butterflies group has been formed to be social about trying new things media and they believe they have a world first.

Using the online conversation starter, micro-blogging site Twitter, the groups is conducting a stand up comedy event. It’s called “twandup10“.

Twitter is a free social networking and microblogging service that enables its users to send and read messages known as tweets. Tweets are text-based posts of up to 140 characters. Since Twitter’s creation in 2006 by Jack Dorsey, it has gained notability and popularity worldwide. It is sometimes described as “SMS of the Internet”.

So, interpreted, “twandup10” means Stand Up Comedy on Twitter in 2010 using 140 character (length) jokes, gags, back slaps, laughs, sarcasm, and humour.

Thanks to Social [Media] Butterflies member Robert Godden of HR Consulting fame throwing down the challenge to other contestants, “#twandup10” will run on Monday 22 February 2010 from 8pm for 30mins. Contestants, such as Robert, will be known as “twingetwits”.

Twingetwits, along with hecklers will both be very much needed to make this work on the night and both need to be free from 8pm in a location accessible to Twitter (ie via computer, laptop or internet ready mobile phone).

Social Butterflies can confirm that along with Robert (@PeopleMagicHR) everyone will also be entertained by the city’s panda (@wang_wang), our very own @adelaidetweet guy and a mum (@CathieTranent). And we all know how much humour mums need!

To register participation and aim to win the best twingetwit title, DM @charlierobinson via Twitter.

The heckling crowd will judge by vote at the end (8.30pm) with the twingetwits having needed to display interaction, humour, judgement and an ability to engage, amuse and be retweeted!

Social media is media designed to be disseminated through social interaction, created using highly accessible and scalable publishing techniques.

Social [media] Butterflies founder Charlie Robinson says “we believe #twandup10 is a world first for stand up comedy routines and we look forward to the fun and humour the night should generate“.
