National Schools Sailing Championship at Snowdens Beach

port river sailingPort River Sailing Club, on the banks of the Port River at Snowdens Beach, will host the 2010 Australian Schools Team Racing Championship, commencing on the 8th July at 11.00am and running until Sunday afternoon, 11 July.

13 schools from across Australia will each put up a team of 6 secondary school students to viw for the prestigious sailing championship. Competition will be fierce. Tasmanian schools particularly have enjoyed success in recent national events; we heard that one school had their team out practicing and rehearing tactics last weekend when the mercury hovered around 1 degree Centigrade. That’s keen and determined!

At Snowdens, it is all go in preparation for this event.

State Government is assisting, to make the area spic and span, including improving the beach itself, importing 900 cubic metres of sand in a beach replenishment project ahead of the Championship. Council is also providing logistics support.
