McLaren Vale Beer Company (MVBeer) has released a very limited edition white coffee stout under its experimental VALE/EXP line.

VALE/EXP/006 was created for the Great Australian Beer Spectacular but a limited number of kegs have now been released into selected venues in Sydney, Melbourne and Adelaide.

Consumer feedback to date has been very positive, with drinkers commenting that the sweet malts, coffee notes and creamy mouthfeel offer hints of mocha milkshake but, at the same time, it’s sessionable and not a novelty beer.
MVBeer Head Brewer Jeff Wright is a coffee connoisseur who fires up the brewery’s coffee machine continually through the workday.

The inspiration for this new beer came while drinking a coffee martini.

“Firstly, I wanted to trick people’s tastebuds with a beer that has the flavours of a stout but is white in colour,” Jeff says.

“We used wheat and ale malts in the mash ad added freshly roasted Ethiopian Nikesse coffee beans from popular Adelaide roaster Bar 9.

Then we used nitrogen during keg filling gives the palette a smooth, round finish.”
