Moneghetti to Feature at Fitzy’s 5 and President’s Breakfast

Australian marathon legend, Steve Moneghetti, has confirmed his intention to return to Adelaide in August to defend his Fitzy’s 5 title.

The four time Olympian and current Australian selector is still in phenomenal shape and at 48 years of age is showing no signs of slowing down. Claiming victory in the inaugural Fitzy’s 5 was important personally to Moneghetti in honouring David Fitzsimons and he is excited to be returning to Adelaide to defend his title.

With South Australian distance running undergoing a resurgence amongst the junior ranks, Moneghetti is sure to have a number of youngsters challenging him this time around.

“(I’m) always happy to be number two behind Dave Fitzsimons, a true Aussie Distance Running Legend,” said Moneghetti.

“I am delighted to be returning to compete again in the Fitzy’s 5 this year. After such a successful inaugural run last year, I look forward to seeing this event grow to become a must do on the South Australian events calendar”, he continued.

“It is a very scenic, flat and fast course around the beautiful parklands alongside the Torrens River and it also raises awareness and  much needed funds for the ongoing work of the Hanson Institute. Dave would be rightfully proud of the event named in his honour and it is our chance to recognise him and the legacy he has left behind by participating in the event”.

In true marathon runner style, Moneghetti has also offered to jog a lap of the course at the conclusion of Fitzy’s 5 for those event participants who still have the energy!

Aside from his participation in Fitzy’s 5 on Sunday the 7th of August, Moneghetti has also agreed to feature at the Athletics SA President’s Breakfast the following morning despite it being his daughter’s birthday!
