Meet Jacki Weaver at Palace Nova Eastend

ANIMAL KINGDOM (MA15+) is a powerful crime drama exploring the battle between a criminal family and the police, and the ordinary lives caught in the middle.   The film stars Ben Mendelsohn, Joel Edgerton, Guy Pearce and Jacki Weaver.

ANIMAL KINGDOM won the Sundance World Cinema Jury Prize in January this year, with critics and audiences alike reaching for superlatives.

The NY Times features Jacki Weaver as one of the breakthrough performances of the US summer season of movies:  “in a film of strong performances, including that of Guy Pearce as  the police detective determined to bring the Codys down, Weaver remains the standout”

Jacki Weaver’s 44-year career reflects a remarkable range, from popular television serials to Peter Weir’s “Picnic at Hanging Rock” and stagings of Chekhov and Joe Orton. She made her acting debut in the television series Wandjina in 1966, she made her big screen debut in Stork in 1971, and has been a star of Australian stage and screen ever since.

David Michod is a director, actor and screenwriter.  A former film journalist  he spent a year in a graduate film program at Victorian College of the Arts .  He wrote 2001’s Noise, appeared in Kenny in 2006 and directed Inside The Square in 2009.

Jacki Weaver and David Michod will be special guests at an advance screening of ANIMAL KINGDOM at the Nova Eastend Cinema on Monday, 31 May at 6.30pm.  The film will be followed by a question and answer discussion.
