It will also honour more than 8000 volunteers who donate their time to prepare and deliver nourishing meals to many people, so they can continue living independently in their own homes.

As part of MoWSA’s 60th birthday celebrations, volunteers will be treated to special “Movie Day” screenings in Adelaide, Gawler, Port Augusta and Renmark. They will also be invited to attend a “Where It All Began” afternoon tea at the Port Adelaide Town Hall on 14 August.

Meals on Wheels SA Chief Executive Officer Mrs Sharyn Broer said Meals on Wheels played an integral part in local communities across South Australia.

“For the past 60 years, our remarkable group of volunteers has delivered a daily meal to many thousands of Meals on Wheels clients who are unable to shop or cook for themselves with ease, including; older people, those with a chronic or acute illness, post-operatively, those with a disability or who have a carer role,” she said.

Meals on Wheels SA (MoWSA) is the largest community-based volunteer organisation in South Australia, with a commitment to helping customers live independently in their homes.

With 88 branches located across the State, MoWSA has approximately 8500 volunteers working in a variety of roles. It delivers on average over 4000 meals each day.
