As we welcome the month of August, it’s time to pack away those cosy winter blankets for another year. Spring is upon us. The weather is getting warmer, we (barely) survived Dry July, and some of us are starting to get in shape to attain our #summerbodgoals. Now we can come out of hiding from the winter blues and immerse ourselves in some of the amazing fashion, wine and music events this month has to offer. There’s really no excuse for your friends to say ‘there’s nothing to do in Adelaide,’ because guess what? There is! And you (yes you!) have all the info you need to know to make August the best month ever.

Tuesday 1 August – 31 August, SALA Festival

Kicking off today, the South Australian Living Artists Festival is showcasing over 660 free exhibitions across South Australia. It’s the largest and most innovative community based visual arts festival in Australia. SALA Festival allows artists to showcase their creative treasures in galleries but also spread their wings in new public spaces like shops and restaurants! Art lovers, this one’s for you.

1 August – 30 August, Coal Cellar + Grill Winter Food and Wine Series starts. Coal Cellar + Grill is inviting all meat and wine lovers to feast on the limited edition Winter Food and Wine Series menu. Wednesday 2 August, Launch of the Holey Moley Golf Club. This quirky new bar slash indoor golf putt putt course is open to the public from Thursday, and it promises to be STACKS of fun. With a brilliant bar, DJ and 18 holes to play, it’s a guaranteed great night out.

Thursday 3 August, A World of Whisky Dinner at Port Lincoln Hotel. Attention lovers of fine whisky! Join the Port Lincoln Hotel for a 5 Course Degustation Menu paired with whisky from around the world. Their new executive chef and his team will be preparing a tantalising menu that will turn your average Thursday night into a tantalising trip around the world! Cost is $60pp and includes a five course menu with pairings. Friday 4 August, International Beer Day. Grab your favourite case of SA craft beer, head to your local pub or sniff out the awesome beer specials around town because it’s International Beer Day! If you’re feeling adventurous Mr. Goodbar are even doing special beer cocktails.

Friday 4 August, SALA in the East End: Free Opening Night Event. The City of Adelaide are proud sponsors of the SALA Festival. Friday 4 August, Walk a Mile in My Boots McLaren Vale. Register today to Walk a Mile in My Boots with Hutt St Centre in support of people facing homelessness in South Australia. There are nearly 6,000 people experiencing homelessness in South Australia. We think that’s too many people facing poverty and disadvantage. Each year we call on South Australians to show their support for people facing homelessness by joining them and experiencing what it is like on a cold, winter’s morning to walk one mile to find something to eat, a hot shower and a friendly face.

Saturday 5 – Sunday 6 August, Gathered Market. Enjoy a weekend at one of Adelaide’s premier markets full of fantastic South Australian vendors, workshops, food, bar, entertainment + more! 10am – 4pm both days at The Queen’s Theatre. $2 entry

Saturday 5 August, Jerry Seinfeld at Adelaide Entertainment Centre  Comedy master Jerry Seinfeld brings his stand-up show to Australia. Entertainment icon Jerry Seinfeld will tour Australia performing a live stand-up show filled with his trademark humour, wit and sharp observations about day-to-day life. Sunday 6 August, Showdown 43 Adelaide Crows vs Port Power. It’s Showdown 43 as Port Adelaide take on the Crows for an epic showdown at Adelaide Oval in Round 20. Watch it live with tickets available via Ticketek or visit the Port Club for the full broadcast.

12 August – 19 August, SA Variety Bash 2017 ‘Pastures to Pines’. 2017 celebrates the 29th anniversary of the Variety SA Bash eight day country drive, departing from Mount Barker on Saturday 12 August and finishing eight days later on 19 August in Mount Gambier. On this year’s event, the entrants will be taken on numerous interesting tracks and through many private properties seeing parts of our country that many people would never have the opportunity to experience. During the event there are various trophies awarded to encourage fundraising, fun themes, fun for the kids and overall fun. Monday 14 August, Koval Whiskey and Gin Masterclass at Hains & Co.

Thursday 17 August, Grant Burge Wine Dinner at Port Lincoln Hotel. A highly anticipated event every year, the Port Lincoln Hotel’s winter wine dinner series is back for 2017 with their Grant Burge Wine Dinner. Enjoy canapes on arrival in our Pre-Function Foyer before moving into the Lincoln Ballroom for a delectable 4 Course Menu by their new Executive Chef David Revel, carefully paired with a selection of Grant Burge’s best wines. Friday 18 August – Saturday 19 August, Hennessy New Alfresco Terrace Opening Weekend at Mayfair Hotel. Join the Mayfair Hotel at their rooftop bar, as they celebrate the opening of their new Alfresco Terrace. The new glass-topped alfresco terrace features a beautiful vertical garden adorned with Hennessy in lights and bench seating around the edge of the terrace providing plenty of opportunity for admiring the city skyline, no matter the weather. Friday 18 August, QUEEN – It’s A Kind Magic at Thebarton Theatre. Queen – It’s A Kinda Magic recreates Queen’s 1986 World Tour concert featuring more than 20 of the band’s greatest hits such as We Will Rock You, Bohemian Rhapsody, We Are the Champions, Under Pressure and Fat-Bottomed Girls. Tuesday 22 August, 2KW Whisky Dinner. The last of our whisky series sees one of Scotlands most famous distilleries featured. Wednesday, 23 August. Bourbon Legends Dinner. Join Erica Richards, Brand Ambassador from Jim Beam and Makers Mark, for a night of meat cooked over charcoal and bourbon cocktails matched for the event. There will be a Rye Winter Warmer and Negroni inspired bourbon cocktail plus a few surprises.

Saturday 26 August, Winter Lantern Festival. The Hahndorf Academy are working with the local community and schools to create artful lantern sculptures that will be paraded down the main straight of Hahndorf and displayed in the Hahndorf Academy grounds. The Hahndorf Academy grounds will be transformed into a colourful and dynamic space, decorated with a large array of lanterns and dotted with local vendor food stalls as well as craft and activities including shadow puppetry and fire puppetry. The theme for this year is ‘Literary Arts’ and will include the use of poetry, either incorporated with lantern designs, or performed publicly. See more info about this free event here.

Wednesday 30 August, Bremerton Wine Society Dinner at Rob Roy Hotel. Join the Rob Roy Hotel as Rebecca and Lucy from Bremerton Wines take us on a journey through their range of exceptional wines with a menu that has been created to perfectly match. Rebecca and Lucy do pretty much everything, from making the wine, running the cellar door and getting out and about to help sell the finished product, this will be an evening of great wine, great food and great company.
