Filmed in South Australia from 15 September to 6 October this year, the four actors do not require any professional experience, but must be, or look, 15 years old.

“We are on the hunt for young, South Australian talent to be a part of this exciting project,” says Rosemary Myers, Windmill’s Artistic Director. “We are looking for a lead girl and boy, as well as two identical twin girls who look 15 years old.”

Applicants are invited to film a short monologue and upload it to YouTube for consideration, with those shortlisted being invited for further screen tests in June.

Adapted from the successful stage production of Girl Asleep, which premiered at the 2014 Adelaide Festival, the film will be directed by Rosemary Myers, with a screenplay by Matthew Whittet (School Dance; Fugitive), produced by Jo Dyer (Lucky Miles; Boy Castaways) and designed by Jonathon Oxlade (Pinocchio; School Dance).

The film received funding from the HIVE Production Fund, a unique initiative of the Adelaide Film Festival in partnership with the Australia Council for the Arts, Screen Australia and ABC Arts. The film will be broadcast shortly after the world premiere on ABC1.
