We Found The Dancing Brickie From Dita Von Teese

Thanks to the modern miracle of social media, we tracked down the guy who took the stage by storm for a full minute last night during Dita Von Teese, and relived his moment.

Imagine for a moment that you’re plucked from the audience at a sold out show to participate in an impromptu dance off at the on stage mercy of an smutty and slightly antagonistic emcee. Great, hold that picture. And then imagine that you have to follow the performing entourage of international burlesque superstar Dita Von Teese.

One week from today we open #StripStripHooray! in Australia! Ticket links are at Teese.us/ssh

So, what do you do? You’re essentially the ‘sacrificial lamb’ for a light comedic break in the night, as the headline performer of the Adelaide Cabaret Festival changes costume. Well, if you’re a Ryan Gosling lookalike Adelaide brickie by the name of Anton Schrama (that’s him in the top photo on the left), then you muster up the swag of all three Bee Gees from the Staying Alive film clip and in the spirit of the night, show just enough skin. Of course there is no footage of his performance out of respect for the live show, but it looked something like this:

So good was his performance, Ms Von Teese invited Schrama and his girlfriend Sarah to meet her after the show. But there was a bit more to the story of the brickie’s moves than simply being a dead ringer of a Hollywood star.

“I have slept for maybe two hours, it’s just been an incredible rush,” said a still buzzing Schrama to Glam this afternoon. “To perform in front of all of those people and then to be so well received was just an amazing moment. And then to meet Ms Von Teese after the show, it’s indescribable. Both Sarah and myself went to work today completely exhausted.”

As it turns out, Anton failed to mention to the host Murray Hill that he had been in amateur theatre for years. In fact, his interest in burlesque, boylesque and brolesque (a more masculine version of male burlesque which you should certainly keep on your radar) goes beyond merely appreciating it as a spectator. Though it’s early days for him on stage right now, yes ladies and gentlemen, this means there may be another opportunity to see him on stage again in a similar capacity. Cue deafening cheers once again.

For those who cannot wait so long for the talented performer to return the stage, you can see him as part of the cast in a local production of the musical Rent this August. Tickets are available here.

But in this moment, let’s all appreciate what those in the audience were lucky enough to share in together last night. It was something truly special, truly impromptu and appropriately not captured on film. What happens at a live Dita Von Teese show, stays at a Dita Von Teese show. And it builds the legend of the Adelaide Cabaret Festival event further.
