Wakefield Grange Moves From Local Farmgate To SA Top Honour

At the annual South Australian Food Industry Awards Wakefield Grange took out the top honour award for their visionary and innovative farming efforts.

Most people don’t really think about where their food, especially meat, comes from. Well, the South Australian Food Industry Awards recognises just that and celebrates the excellent efforts and visions our local farmers have brought to SA farming.

Proud SA sustainable meat business, Wakefield Grange, took out two top gongs at the annual South Australian Food Industry Awards in recognition for their outstanding vision, leadership and innovation. Starting out as a husband and wife team, Nathan and Sophie Wakefield sold their produce at a single farmer’s market each week but, has now transformed into a thriving small business, servicing up to 30 restaurants and eateries throughout SA and a retail store near Yankalilla.

How has Wakefield Grange grown so fast in just three short years? Well, it’s throughout their commitment to uphold a sustainable vision and follow the growing ‘nose-to-tail’ philosophy. It takes a unique look at on-farm processing, where they strongly believe in respecting and processing the whole animal. They’re challenging the disconnection we all have between farm and plate by showing that there is a lot more to an animal than just the piece of meat they pick up from the butcher.

Together, with a range of local producers, the brand has been brought to life. With the passion flowing through the business, Wakefield Grange hopes to see young people come into farming with a collaborative approach to promote SA’s agricultural sustainability.
