In keeping with its growing reputation for innovation, Udder Delights is to present a special Mother’s Day offering to local cheese lovers in the form of a fun and flamboyant pop up Haloumi Bar at its Hahndorf Cheese Cellar.

That’s when formidable Store Manager at the award-winning Adelaide Hills artisan cheese company, Ashley Dent, will don the apron to ensure that May 10 is a day to remember for all mothers – passed in a great setting while sampling some of the most scrumptious hand-made haloumi cheese available.

“Haloumi is an increasingly popular cheese that’s steadily taking its place on the Australian food landscape and we’ve decided there’s no better day than Mother’s Day to celebrate its role in our cuisine,” Mr Dent said.

“I’ll be there from early morning setting up our first ever pop up Haloumi Bar, where this Greek-Cypriot delicacy of semi-firm, unripened salted cheese made – in our case – from Adelaide Hills cow’s milk will be available for tastings.”

“But as we all appreciate that one mouthful is never enough, we’ll also be selling this specialty as a menu item on the day and in the store, too, as I’m sure I can persuade local cheese cognoscenti to take some home to share with family and friends”

When cold, haloumi is best described as squeaky, but once pan fried, it becomes a salty unctuous morsel on the inside with a golden brown crust on the outside that is best eaten just with a squeeze of lemon.

“Over the years, there has been massive customer demand for us to make Haloumi, and finally we’ve been able to release it,” Udder Delights’ Director and Cheese Cellar General Manager, Sheree Sullivan, added.

“We thought Mother’s Days would be a great day to unveil the Udder Delights Haloumi – our pop up Haloumi Bar aims to offer a great family outing, where mum’s at the centre of attention and there’s plenty of love and laughter about.”

“Within a few weeks the Haloumi will not only be sold up at our Cheese Cellar, but all around Australia through independent grocers”

The award-winning Udder Delights recently won the bronze medal in the ‘Excellence in Food Tourism’ category at the prestigious Australian National Tourism Awards, eclipsing many notable operations across the country in the process.

The company is recognised for the unique array of pioneering food tourism initiatives it offers, among them the Adelaide Hills Cheese & Wine Trail, the Easy Cheesy Home Cheesemaking Classes, the Udder Delights High Tea and the Decadent Cheese Fondue.
