A new product designed by Adelaide mums offers families opportunities for maximum play with minimum mess. Play pouch is a versatile and durable play mat and toy storage bag made with high quality cotton canvas and strong rope. It is a place to play and it is simple to pack away.

Kate Campbell and Kate O’Donoghue lead busy lives and have designed the play pouch for families just like theirs. They were inspired by the creative play of their six children and a desire to limit the spread of the hundreds of bits and pieces of LEGO®, trains, balls, blocks and dolls.

They set about redesigning the vintage concept of sheet-and-string for toy storage to make it attractive and durable for families of today. They have seen that the play pouch empowers kids to participate in an achievable pack up – “I used to tear my hair out when the LEGO® tub was up-ended”, says Kate C, mother of three boys.

“And I’d spend ages trying to get the boys to help pick up the LEGO®. Inevitably I’d clean it up on my own, only to find pieces scattered throughout the house. Now my older boys play with lego in the play pouch and they pack it away without me having to help. This has been a life saver as my youngest son is globally delayed and needs extra attention. He is at risk of choking on the LEGO®, so it is reassuring to know that it can be quickly and thoroughly packed away.”

Kate O agrees, “It’s great to combat the spread of toddler toys at home! I also love that I can fit five beach towels and plenty of buckets and spades in a play pouch for a day at the beach with the whole family. The zip pocket means I don’t lose my car keys in the sand!”

Play pouch is growing fast, even while both Kates have busy family lives – Kate C works in real estate and is a successful singer and Kate O manages the family farm and building business. While play pouch has only been operating since October last year, there are plans to add more products to the range.

The online store at www.playpouch.com is attracting lots of attention. Markets like Lollipops at Morphetville Racecourse and the Xmas Gift and Craft Fair Adelaide Showground have seen people flocking to their stalls. Play pouch will soon be available in stores, with Toyworld in Myer Centre Adelaide City, Kidzone Unley and Windmill Educational Toys at Norwood signing on as stockists.
