Tour Village & Bike Expo Opens This Saturday

tour-villageHelp celebrate the Santos Tour Down Under’s 15th birthday at the Adelaide City Council Tour Village & Bike Expo, opening 3pm this Saturday in Victoria Square / Tarndanyangga.

Located in the heart of the city, the Village will be a haven for cycling fans and a hub for Santos Tour Down Under riders, mechanics and organisers.

“Adelaide City Council is proud to have been a premier sponsor of the Santos Tour Down Under since the beginning,” said Lord Mayor Stephen Yarwood.

“The event gives an estimated economic boost of $41.5 million for the State and attracts over 230,000 visitors to the city so it’s a great way to showcase everything the City of Adelaide has to offer.

“This year the Village and Bike Expo will be bigger and better than ever before. Entry is free so grab your friends and work colleagues, head into the city and enjoy all the fun and activities on offer during the Tour.”

Stephen will officially open the village on Saturday at 3pm. Once open, the Village will become STDU headquarters. Fans will be able to watch team mechanics at work, have a look at a range of sponsor displays and merchandise and maybe even get an autograph.

“The outdoor area is the perfect place to meet friends, watch the big screen, grab a drink and soak up the atmosphere,” Stephen said.

On Saturday evening the official team presentation will take place in the Village on the outside stage from 6pm, with renowned cycling commentators Phil Liggett and Paul Sherwen interviewing the riders. Australian dance act Sneaky Sound System will then take to the stage from 7.30pm to kick-start the festivities.

The Adelaide City Council Bike Expo at the northern end of Victoria Square will also give visitors the opportunity to test ride the latest bikes, check out a range of cycling gear and be equipped just like the pros.
