Torrens University Australia Launches Two New Industry-Driven Undergraduate Programs

Australia’s newest comprehensive university and only the second to open in 20 years – Torrens University Australia – has announced two new undergraduate programs for 2015 in Media Design and Applied Public Health in response to strong demand for skilled professionals in these burgeoning industries.

From Torrens’ sponsorship of the inaugural World Business Forum in Sydney to our recent commemorative opening by President Bill Clinton, the momentum continues with the launch of two new market-driven undergraduate programs for commencement in January 2015,” said Professor Fred McDougall, Vice-Chancellor, Torrens University Australia.

“Both undergraduate offerings reflect Torrens’ pledge to identify growth sectors and work collaboratively with industry to design innovative programs which best meet the demands of students and employers now and in the future. As a responsive and agile institution, we’re in a unique position to be flexible and to adapt to the changing needs of prospective students and industry – and to devise curricula with a focus on Australia’s role in the Asia-Pacific whether that is in business, global public health or pioneering international media design,” continued Professor McDougall.

All Torrens’ programs are built on the University’s keystone You First Commitment – setting students at the centre of everything it does. This is brought to life at the University through:

  • Flexibility and accessibility: providing advanced digital and physical learning environments that allow students to customise their learning experience whether on-campus, online or a mix of the two to best meet their specific study needs.
  • Industry connectivity: working collaboratively with business leaders to guide program development and ensure the skills students are learning are those most valued by employers.
  • Spotlight on soft skills: developing student proficiency in sought after soft skills such as public speaking, team dynamics and communication that lead equally – if not more – to workplace success, versus academic achievement alone.
  • Learning from doing: providing out-of-classroom experiences where students can apply knowledge to real life/work situations such as tailored internships, student exchanges and participation in major events.  Global perspective: preparing students for employment in a global market place through initiatives such as international mentoring, global case studies, international exchanges and partnerships with relevant institutions from the broader, global Laureate network.

Scholarships – based on merit – will be available to undergraduate students enrolling in Torrens’ Bachelor of Commerce, Public Health and Media Design programs from January 2015 onwards.
