A former South Australian player with 99 first-class games experience and member of the victorious 1995/96 Sheffield Shield side, Nielsen began coaching with the Australian team in 2002 as a performance analyst and assistant coach.

The South Australian Cricket Association can today confirm it has appointed Tim Nielsen to the position of General Manager, High Performance.

He was involved in the winning Ashes team of 2002/03 and the victorious ICC Cricket World Cup team in 2003.

In 2007, Nielsen was appointed head coach of the Australian team and spent four years in the role, winning the ICC Champions Trophy in 2009.

Since 2011, Nielsen has been working with SACA as state talent manager, responsible for the identification of South Australia’s best young cricketing talent and working with the Emerging Redbacks program.

SACA Chief Executive, Keith Bradshaw, said Nielsen’s depth of experience and knowledge made him the lead candidate for the role.

Speaking today about the appointment, Nielsen said he will look to maintain the momentum that has been generated in South Australian cricket over the past few seasons.

“My key focus in the short term will be consolidating a really positive period of growth for cricket in South Australia,” Nielsen said.

“Our underage teams have led the way nationally over the past two years and our women’s team, the Scorpions, enjoyed great improvement last year.

“I want to ensure that at all levels of cricket, South Australia has a long-term period of sustained success, developing elite first-class cricketers and turning them into Australian players.”
