Visitors to the eight-day Kangaroo Island Feastival in May are in for a degustation of dining experiences and SeaLink has released a range of packages to help visitors enjoy this ultimate event in food and wine.
From 1 to 8 May 2015, visitors can go table surfing with friends and share a home cooked meal with a Kangaroo Island local at their house, visit a pop up dining experience or enjoy the SeaLink Enchanted Garden launch dinner, featuring cooking legend Stephanie Alexander and local Chef Kate Sumner.
As well as selling tickets to Feastival events, SeaLink also has a range of travel and accommodation packages for those indulging in one or more of the 21 events being held across the eight days.
“Kangaroo Island is heaven for food lovers, offering an authentic farm gate to plate experience and Feastival celebrates the best of the island’s produce, its wines, spirits and the characters that call the island home,” SeaLink South Australian General Manager Donna Gauci says.
“This is an intimate event where you can meet the locals, learn about the island’s amazing food culture and come home with an appreciation for everything that makes Kangaroo Island such a special place.”
The popular SeaLink-sponsored launch event dinner, this year themed as an Enchanted Garden, will be held at Kingscote Wharf on Friday 1 May. Guests will walk through a “wardrobe door” to enter an enchanted world where a magical menu awaits, including local duck, pork and seafood prepared by Stephanie Alexander and Kate Sumner.
Stephanie, one of Australia’s great food educators, is passionate about fresh produce straight from the garden while Kate, as well as running her own food businesses on the island, recently developed a Kangaroo Island honey and fig ice-cream for Peters Connoisseur range.
“From a day tour to self-drive packages for those who wish to take their own car, SeaLink has KI Feastival event packages covered along with event shuttle transfers to and from some key events,” Ms Gauci says.
Packages include a day ticket to the Hothouse event on Sunday 3 May which includes cheese and sausage making, fish smoking, lemon preserving, street-food stalls, produce tastings, a farmers market, wine and local spirit stalls and activities for kids. A Hothouse day package including tickets, event shuttle transfers, coach transport and return ferry is priced at $133 for an adult from Adelaide, $153 from the Fleurieu Peninsula (Victor Harbor and Goolwa) and $89 from Cape Jervis. A ticket to the event and bus transfers is also available from Penneshaw and American River from $49 per adult and $28 per child.
Special savings of up to $76 are available for people booking event tickets, travel and accommodation with SeaLink. SeaLink offers more than 120 accommodation options ranging from budget to luxury and Feastival packages can be combined with other SeaLink Kangaroo Island tours.
