This McLaren Vale Shiraz & Chocolate Masterclass Is To Die For

Chocolate and wine – what better combination is there? Novice and expert wine drinkers alike will be thrilled with this Shiraz masterclasses’ offerings.

If you’re anything like us, you know how to drink wine but you don’t know much about how it goes from vineyard to barrel and then into the bottle. It seems to be a mystery process that results in us relaxing on a Friday night with a big glass and a cheese platter. In order to inject a little bit of knowledge in that brain of yours, why not go beyond the typical tasting room experience and enjoy a masterclass at a historic working winery while you learn about how a signature wine is made.

Wirra Wirra‘s Shiraz Revolution masterclass is the perfect chance to experience a behind-the-scenes tour that will appeal to both novice and expert wine drinkers alike, so you and your mate Pierre (who knows everything there is to know about wine) will be able to enjoy the masterclass together. Head behind the scenes with an intimate winery tour, learn about barrel ageing in their historic Ironstone Cellars, and taste five of their best shiraz’s including a rare museum wine in Trott’s Original Cellar Door.

The wines you’ll try in the masterclass showcase both McLaren Vale and the changing landscape of Australian Shiraz. Start with a bright, fresh cool-climate style, followed by a bio-dynamically grown single vineyard wine, a rich and full-bodied classic McLaren Vale and finish with an elegant Australian icon.

To add a little more spice to the Shiraz Revolution masterclass, Wirra Wirra has partnered with French-trained chocolatier and local providore, Wendy Morgan of Four Winds Chocolate, to create a range of delectable chocolate pairings to match each wine.

“I’ve convinced myself the Shiraz Revolution is all about the wine, but sometimes when I hear the comments about the chocolate, I have to swallow my pride a little. I can’t blame them really – it’s seriously good,” says Senior winemaker, Paul Smith.

Having access to Shiraz vineyards right across the sub-regions of McLaren Vale from the hills to the coast, with some vineyards sitting on some of the oldest rocks on the planet, allows for the opportunity to be adventurous in fruit selection from a range of very different vineyards.

Ending with a chance to ring a ¾ tonne Angelus Bell that sits atop the winery tower for no better reason than it’s fun, you’ll also get to taste and learn about the different expressions of the Shiraz grape variety produced in McLaren Vale. With such rich geological history throughout the region, you might be surprised at how different Shiraz wine can be.

At only $50pp, it’s an affordable way to enjoy a sunny summer day in the McLaren Vale region. To book, visit their website or call 08 8323 8414.
